Used to be an avid user of Synergy until they went commercial. Went to look for an alternative and landed on Sharemouse. Used it for a few months, but it lagged between computers. I dealt with it for a while, but eventually I went looking for another alternative. I tried "Barrier", a fork of Synergy, but it doesn't support 32-bit computers. Yeah I know. I have a 32-bit computer. So it wasn't going to work for me, but looked so promising. I then tried Mouse without Borders and there is NO transition lag between computers. It's as if that monitor is connected to the main computer. I'm sold and IT'S FREE! 5 stars!!

Pros

  • lightweight
  • Easy to understand
  • Works even on startup (lock screen)
    Cons
  • Unable to remove computer
  • unable to scroll 80% of the time (works if lock screen is up still)
  • Adding computers seems like more work then needed (unable to remove previous computer names)
  • Windows only (the real heart breaker)
  • Not open source. (another big no no for me since this is allowing connections across computers it can be dangerous)

It's **free **and from Microsoft, two things I thought i'd never say. Took me less than 2 minutes to set up both machines and it just works most of the time. For most Windows users, this is just what they need.

This software actually works, and quite fast too. Can share clipboard, simple to arrange monitors. Does exactly what I need it to.

Coexists with Synergy

about Mouse without Borders and Synergy · · Helpful Not helpful Report as spam

Mouse Without Borders does a much better job with Windows-only set ups--it handles run-as-administrator situations where Synergy does not.

I run both Mouse Without Borders and Synergy on my Windows "server" machine. When my dual-boot second machine is running Windows, Mouse Without Borders connects; when it's running Linux, Synergy does, automatically (though in both cases, I have to log in to the second machine to get Synergy or Mouse Without Borders started).

Ditched this one

I had to ditch this one because I was trying to use it to control an HTPC from my laptop, and it maps all mouse and keyboard type devices on both machines to the active screen. This was unacceptable because it prevented my HTPC IR remote from working on the HTPC when using my laptop.

you can turn it off. just read the info rather then clicking everything on...

Also this is the best program ive ran into besides a pip program for everything (ontopreplica via github)

This is a made-by-Microsoft product. If you're only using windows, I suggest going here first. Setup was bone simple.
