The 1.12 beta is Super Exciting!

about Mixxx and Serato DJ · · Helpful Not helpful

Can't wait for the official release, but the beta is already really something special. I'm seriously considering dropping Serato DJ for it. It's that good.

A few key notes:

  • I compiled the beta on Linux (Lubuntu), and my 5 year old laptop CPU runs 20-30 degrees cooler than Serato DJ does on Windows 7.
  • It has a built in mixer that works really well.
  • It has a key analyzer. Also a key change function (!)
  • Supports Wavpack (if you compile it yourself) and Opus.
  • Has all the standard stuff: mic, effects, samplers, bpm sync, filters, recording, looping.
  • Runs solid as far as I've tested.

I'm basically waiting for a better mapping for my Pioneer DDJ-SR, that and I would really love some kind of program that would convert my Serato DJ cue points!! Would also like the option for the transient view (like Serato DJ has), as I don't like the beat grid concept.

No where near as good as traktor, but for being free, it's great. The MIDI control mapping wasn't customizable for me, unlike traktor where you can set set any knob or button to any command. There are only 3 effects, and one of them didn't even work for me. Comparing it to other free DJ software, it's the best, and will get the job done for most people. Major bouns is it even works with linux!
