ADONIS:CE for Process modelling

Have a look to ADONIS Community Edition: is a free version of the commercial software ADONIS from the BOC Group. You can model process maps, flowcharts, organigrams, attach information regarding documents, systems, risks, etc.

It provides full support for BPMN 2.0 and advanced mechanisms such as process simulation, queries and web documentation.

I am trying to find a way to convert .vsd files that were created with Visio 2013 to Adonis .adl; however, I am not able to use the online visio converter since it requires a .vdx file which I'm finding out is no longer supported by Microsoft Visio 2013. How have others overcome this challenge?

Still AFAIK, is the best 2D diagramming tool available (and I have use it extensively). Unfortunately, there's still that damn proprietary lock-in and the price tag seems to be growing a lot faster than most/all of the other Microsoft's products. Hopefully Google will come out with something one of these days to create some competition because the cost makes it not 'worth it' to upgrade.

Also check out Diagram Designer, for Windows. Another nice alternative to Visio.
