Merlin Project 5 is the best alternative to MS Project and any other project management apps out there if you are a Mac user. Take a look at it, you can test it 30 days long without any limitations.

I personally love the new Kanban and grouping features!

First and foremost, let me give you a overview of where I use Merlin Project. i am a project manager in a company that works in the sector of aerodynamics. Our company employs more than 50 people. We use Merlin to plan, monitor and visualise all our projects and it has been the best decision to do it that way! I don’t want to go back to the time when, to us, Merlin was only a magician in the Arthur Saga.

We started using Merlin 5 years ago. Before that time, our company used Excel to plan our projects. i still recall that time as the most chaotic time of our company. Way too many people worked on the same parts while other aspects were ignored and sometimes didn’t happen at all. We had to change our way of dealing with projects. Since we refuse to work on Windows, we couldn’t just use the all mighty MS Project, so we had to look for a program on Mac OS X. Then we found Merlin:

The newest Version of Merlin - called Merlin Project - is exactly what we needed. Overall it features a great GUI, which is extremely intuitive in its usage. Also, I love the viewing options for Gantt Charts, Mindmaps, WBS, … It resembles MS Project due to its many features and powerful general state. Personally, I love the "Apple-esque“ design so I’d prefer Merlin Project over MS Office at any time.

Since we work together in teams, the synchronisation function is vital to us. It has been greatly improved in the last years and works really great. You don’t even necessarily need a computer since there is also a mobile version. So you can even adjust the project on the fly. In that context, I also need to highlight the topic of utilisation:

If you use a Mac, and do serious project planning, it is the most robust client available. Even though it is quite expensive, I must say that it’s worth every cent.

Awesome software for project management on macOS. I used MS Project before, but switched to the Mac.
