JOCR Reviews

JOCR is pretty good!

about JOCR · · Helpful Not helpful

Windows Snipping Tool works OK.. Also have used GreenShot, but always come back to JOCR. If you have an older version of Microsoft Office, JOCR will capture the text of a dialog or Windows Explorer for you. In my day-to-day work, I am always capturing screen prints and sending via e-mail. Keep in mind, you do not have to have Office 2003 or 2007 if you want to just do screen snips.

Text recognition from screenshots

about JOCR and ABBYY FineReader, ABBYY Screenshot Reader, FastStone Capture · · Helpful Not helpful

Jing and GreenShot have no OCR text recognition function from screenshots.

On http://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm there is no information, that FastStone Capture has an OCR-function although it is not free.

If you need a free portable OCR text recognition app, you need JOCR.

JOCR has the ability to recognize selectable many languages, the user interface however is only english.
If you have the commercial ABBYY Finereader you have as a free add-on the ABBYY ScreenShot reader, which is very good, but is not free and not portable.
