Trying out some alternatives

In light of the recent adverse changes to Hamachi I am looking at alternatives and here are some that I've tried

Wippien:

This was my favorite because it allows so much customization. None of the other Hamachi alternatives allowed for setting your own IP. Getting this to run as a service was easy with WippienService (another download from the site). There's a caveat though since running as a service causes you to lose the GUI. This means you lose chat and the convenient right click menu. This also doesn't have the network relay feature that Hamachi has when a connection can't be established.

Since yesterday, I have been unable to establish VPN connections with any other computer. Maybe this has become abandonware since it hasn't been updated for over a year. I hope not, because I love it.
Edit: it is working again so disregard this last paragraph.

Remobo:

Very simple to use, but running as a service requires a monthly fee of $7.99 as of writing. For free users, it doesn't have auto login on application launch either so it defeats the purpose for me as I need VPN preferably as soon as I turn on the machine, or at least after login. Otherwise, this has built-in VNC (TightVNC) for remote desktop and a built in proxy server which is interesting.

Comodo Unite (EasyVPN):
Last update August 2011
The developers haven't updated this because they are busy working on LoginPro. I've tried LoginPro and it's not a VPN solution. It's more of a remote desktop support solution. Anyway, since this hasn't been updated, the IP subnet is still 5.0.0.0/8. Since this range is now purchased, it is no longer a valid local IP range anymore and will, if not already, conflict with accessing sites/services that use this IP range.
Other than that, this can launch as a service and runs stable, even has network relay if a direct connection can't be made. Also it's not limited to 5 users. Once/If they fix the IP range problem, this is the perfect alternative to Hamachi.

I re-edited the name to 'LogMeIn Hamachi²' - including the LogMeIn. This follows other examples such as Microsoft Word where the company name is part of the product name.

This makes more sense when you look at other products the company is offering: LogMeIn Central, LogMeIn Rescue, LogMeIn Pro², etc.

Not sure about the ² though. Is this part of the product name, or really just a version? Will the ² be dropped with the next version or will it stay as part of the name?
