I am not sure Habitica could be qualified as "self-hosted".

While it is certainly possible to install Habitica locally the process targets developers: forking code, building servers, etc. There is no ready to run distribution and/or instructions for just maintaining a local copy of Habitica.

Mobile clients do not seem to have the possibility to use your local hosted instance either.

While I think been opensource is certainly positive I think Habitica could also be a great addition to private clouds.

The UI change is still buggy 3 years after the change and has a confusing UI. Habitica does have a premium subscription which allows you more item drops, and a premium currency that is used to purchase different backgrounds, pet quests, and can be traded in for regular currency which can be used to buy seasonal outfits, some non-pet quests, health potions, as well as a few other minor things. However, the Party system allows you to play a pet quest with a group of others, and all you really need is one subscriber per group. That being said, this is the best, if not the only, life-game that is available for browser. This means that there's a large group of people online, and it should be pretty simple to join a party.

A bit too easy to write a few stupid lines and just click them to get another coin, without really changing anything in your life. I think it should give rewards after a longer time of clicking.
