Greenpois0n performs an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2 on the iPhone 4/3GS, iPod touch 2G/3G/4G, iPad, and Apple TV 2, allowing them to run apps unapproved by Apple. It uses the limera1n exploit by geohot.

Old jailbreaking method. The official website is no longer available. The source code dates back to 2010, it's available on GitHub and supports iOS 4.1

Also, greenpois0n SERIOUSLY slowed down the boot time for my iPod.
Update: Greenpois0n appears to make the iPod Touch 2nd-generation randomly reboot from time to time. If you have a 2nd-gen iPod Touch (or an "3rd-gen" iPod Touch with 8 GB of storage), I wouldn't recommend trying to jailbreak iOS 4.1. Stick to the original iOS 4.0.
Greenpois0n didn't work on my iPod Touch 2G (MC Model) on iOS 4.1 at first, but it worked after I tried using it on a different computer.
Anyways, you might have some problems putting your device in DFU Mode (which is required for greenpois0n to work), but it's not a terribly complicated process.
