Most users think Diaspora is a great alternative to Google Plus.
ericbright Diaspora has no group or community feature. The only way to filter out anything is to manipulate hashtags. Also, there is no moderation mechanism for posts related to any topic. Anyone's post with a hashtag similar to yours will appear in your stream, that allows for a huge spamming vulnerability.

Nearly same usibility like G+, easy to understand and it's possible to create groups by using #Hashtags. Lots of former G+ers already arrived here, so it's easy to reunite.

It requires you to 'host' a site (using your system storage etc) rather than true cloud support. Unless you have a Linux system server to play with its pretty useless to most people who want it.

Obnoxious people can push their nonsense and even create an impression of popularity if they enough buy tokens to do so!

It's better alternative comparing to decentralized social networks (like Mastodon or Diaspora), ugly MeWe and political-correct Facebook or Mastodon, but it's worst comparing to Google++ Rewritten and 2 services from Poland: Zombie+ (only on invitations) or (oldschool style) and VK (it's Russian, but nice UI than MeWe).
