GoldenDict Reviews

Great tool for investigation and translation

It works flawlessly on every Linux system I've tested. GD integrates online resources, such as WordReference, Wikipedia and TheFreeDictionary, plus every .dict dictionary you can get from Babylon.com.

On top of that, it's free and open source. Great app.

This is the One and the only one. Unfortunately there are no updates since a very long time.

"It fully supports Lingvo, Babylon, StarDict, Lingoes and Dictd dictionary files."

This description is a lie.
By 'FULLY SUPPORTS', they mean their desktop version supports an obsolete version of Babylon dictionary file format(BGL) that is not possible to download from their website anymore. What it doesn't support:

  • It doesn't support older Babylon .bdc files.
  • It doesn't support Lingoes dictionaries on their desktop version, only on their Android app.

Double Click and Popup doesn't work.

  • On Windows 7 x64, the double click feature doesn't work neither on FireFox, nor on Notepad, neither works their popup tooltip.

The website doesn't work right now!
I tried to write on their forum, yet after regeneration and activation of my account via email, forum did not allow me to add comments. Maybe I should wait for my registration to be approved or something.

This product does not deliver what it claims.
