Nice cross-platform Git client with native code optimization, dark theme, and free non-commercial licensing!

License management seems to be bothersome even for non-commercial use though.

I leave this warning for users who would like to use it with UE4 GitHub Source.

It can fetch a source from GitHub, but if you try to switch a branch it will cause a memory leak and eat all the Ram you have (16Gb in my case), causing the windows to hang with Out of Memory error.

Plus it's very laggy when navigating the tree. It takes from 10 seconds to a few minutes to refresh when you click a commit.
Ofc we're talking about Git repository of several Gb in size.

Another issue is that there is no difference between repositories on GitHub account if they are your personal ones or part of an organization (Epic Games and Nvidia repositories will be mixed with your forks having the same names under the same tree).

Right now it can't compete with SourceTree. But I really hope the performance issues will be fixed in the future.

After Gitkraken decision to remove access to private repositories for free versions, GitAhead seems to be a quite good alternative.
Some very useful features are still missing:

  • compact view of git log
  • graphical tool to solve git rebase (or merge) conflicts
  • graphical tool to do an interactive git rebase
  • git squash
And lots of small graphical modifications could be done to reach the simplicity and the usability of Gitkraken interface for everyday actions like commit, stage, commit amend, stash, etc.

Exactly why I am here. It is not as beautiful as Gitkraken, but it is very good

Open-source, efficient, cross-platform and beautiful.

OpenSource, faster and more usable than GitKraken, easy and automatic updates (unlike previously cited software). I'm using it mostly to visualize complex repositories where the git CLI becomes too messy.

Now that Fork started prompting for $50 and GitKraken cannot be used for private or self hosted repos any more, this is the best free graphical Git client I know of. And you know what. it isn't just good because it's free, it's actually very good in its own right.
