    FreeSpell is described as 'spell checker for any and all Windows applications. You can use it in Microsoft Outlook, Firefox, Visual C++, and even in Windows Explorer when renaming files'. There are more than 10 alternatives to FreeSpell for a variety of platforms, including Windows, Online / Web-based, Android, Mac and iPhone. The best alternative is LanguageTool, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like FreeSpell are Ginger (Freemium), Druide Antidote (Paid), tinySpell (Freemium) and SSuite Spell Checker (Free).

    1. cocoAspell is Mac OS X interface to Aspell – A more intelligent Ispell – that is being developed by Kevin Atkinson. Aspell is an Open Source spell checker designed to eventually replace Ispell.


      The program seems to be no longer updated. Last version, 2.5, released in November 2016, can be still downloaded from the official website.
