Deskbar-Applet is described as 'The goal of Deskbar-Applet is to provide an omnipresent versatile search interface. By typing search terms into the deskbar entry in your panel you are presented with the search results as you type' and is an app in the File Management category. There are four alternatives to Deskbar-Applet for Windows and Linux. The best alternative is RecentX. It's not free, so if you're looking for a free alternative, you could try Gnome Do or Enso Launcher.
