In an effort to shave the cable bill down, I was looking around for some home DVR solutions to get rid of some Xfinity equipment. I've had an HDHomeRun that I was using on one PC with Windows Media Center but was since converted into a Plex Server. As I've been very happy with Plex's streaming capabilities, I noticed they had a DVR solution via Plex Pass, so I gave that a shot. Unfortunately, the Grid Guide on the Nvidia Shield was almost unusable, tuners would be taken up long after changing channels causing me to have to re-start the server, and recording times would be all over the place (at least in the schedule view).

After giving this a shot, I tried both the HDHomeRun Record service as well as Emby, but I just wasn't thrilled with either of these offerings. I then came across Channels DVR, and after getting it set up, I was absolutely floored with how easy and well it worked. Tuner Sharing worked incredibly well as opposed to Plex tying all of them up, the guide on the Android TV app looks great and works smoothly, recording schedules all line up, and they're constantly adding new features. Channel Detection and Auto Skip are super convenient, newly re-done Transcoder has made streaming outside of the home even better, and their support is top notch. Post a problem or idea in the forums, they'll get back to you within hours it seems (and sometimes with the idea/fix implemented already). I can't compliment their team enough, it's something I haven't experienced elsewhere just yet.

I was weary about paying the higher price point than Plex Pass and HDHomeRun Record, but it's been worth every penny to me so far. I haven't had to think about or worry about my TV recordings whatsoever with their software/service, and I hope you'll give them a shot!

I am a long time Plex, Windows Media Center, and HD Homerun user. Channels DVR is the best application available for Live TV and DVR. Super simple setup makes for a great experience. The developers are active and offer amazing support as well as new features and bug fixes.

The ability to mix multiple tuner types (Over The Air, Cable Card, Online Stream) is amazing and works perfectly.

I cannot recommend Channels enough if you are running a TV server out of your house.

The 'Platinum Standard' in user interfaces, ease of use, and rich feature set. Highly recommended and well worth the price!

I've been using Channels for a couple years now and have found it be a great reliable alternative to the regular cable company's cable box/DVR. I find it easy to install, use and the apps available for multiple platforms ncluding Android, Apple and TVs are very reliable and have great support.

I've used MythTV for years, and tried Plex and a few others as well. Channels DVR is by far the best platform that I've used for TV. It's cross-platform support and feature set is fantastic! The recent addition of TVE support makes it by far the only alternative to traditional cable television. And, the developers are the absolute best I've had the chance to meet and work with. Lastly, Channels-DVR requires almost no "care and feeding"; it just plain works!

Best user experience out there when combined with ATV4 and DVR. My family can easily navigate and use all of the features. Cord cutting for me was not about saving money (although I do save money) but about providing a robust but simple UX that is accessible to the whole family. The complex made easy thanks to Channels.

Channels does what it says - it records Live TV from your HDHomerun Tuners and from TVE apps! It works great with lots of options. Skipping commercials is a breeze and it has a grid guide!

Channels Plus installed and now functions smoothly. The server Installation on a Pi3 Model B was quick (once I had NOOBed the Pi.) It required only a path to access a USB hard drive on the Pi and automatically located my HDHomerun networked receiver. The Channels FireTV client works smoothly and its UI is intuitive.

Comparatively, the Channels Plus subscription is more costly than Plex, which for cord-cutting, merits continuing to test Plex, but Channels has no trouble as does the Plex FireTV client with playing a recording-in-progress. Channels Plus and Plex are both more costly than the FireTV Recast, which is subscription-free. Recast's FireTV integration is flawless, but its reliability isn't ready for prime time and the tuner has problems rejecting interference from an adjacent (analog channel) station here.

Channels' FireTV UI is intuitive enough for my wife to use, which is fortunate because when I learned about it, she was ready demand that I "splice the cord." $67.88/month for DirecTV didn't include many channels, but it bought simplicity, reliability, ...and a happy wife.

This is the best. I cut the cable cord and have had an antenna for years now. This app has the most functionality and works the best for recording shows on my home NAS. I have used Plex but it is underpowered and lacks many features. Channels is simply the best.

The autocommercial skip is amazing - completely hands free instant skipping of commercials. The user interface is simple, intuitive, and powerful. The application is rock solid stable.

I had been using EyeTV on OSX for many years and it's great but it's a dying app (very little support and still 32-bit). They even dropped support for HDHomeRun hardware. I just switched to Channels DVR and I'm very pleasantly surprised. The recordings are a higher quality, it works great with HDHomeRun, and now it even works with TVEverywhere (huge bonus!). The developers are amazingly responsive and they are actively enhancing the product all the time. We don't even have an AppleTV but their browser interface for OSX does everything we need. It's a truly excellent product and well worth the monthly fee.
