Almost everyone thinks Notepad++ is a great alternative to BBEdit.
Lightweight native editor with syntax coloring, brace matching, and multi-file sidebar. Most importantly, it's not a bloated JavaScript Electron mess.

      pros, cons and recent comments
Other than suuuper basic text editing, it has no real functionality. An alternative to BBEdit should have some level of programming/HTML editing support. (I'm not hating on Notepad, but it's like saying "Don't like Word? Try writing on pen and paper ;) )
