The installation of AVG LinkScanner unfortunately cannot be finished, if you use Avast Free Antivirus 5. After my unfinished installation experience I must inform, that the following information on http://free.avg.com/de-en/linkscanner is wrong: "Compatible with all popular antivirus and security suite products". AVG should remove this misleading information or make the AVG LinkScanner compatible to Avast Free Antivirus 5. The result of my installation attempt on a system with Avast 5 you can see in the 4th screenshot of http://alternativeto.net/desktop/avg-linkscanner.
AVG LinkScanner 8.5.361 does not work on “Windows 2000 Prof.” in “VMware player 3.0.1” with Firefox I have installed the AVG LinkScanner 8.5.361” on “Windows 2000 Prof. SP4” in “VMware player 3.0.1” with Firefox 3.6. As soon as I activate the AVG Active Surf-Shield sign in "Options security" by selecting the hook, I can bring to work no more Internet connections and cannot update the AVG Linkscanner application any longer. Web-sites cannot be opened any more. In addition, the message “The connection with the update server is failed” comes. If the AVG Active surf-shield is deactivated, all Internet sites can be called with normal good function again. I think, the theoretical functions of AVG LinkScanner would be unique and very useful, and I hope, that the above reported problem is given only in this special constellation.
