The only audio switcher option I found that had a small and unobtrusive dialog that could stay open. This dialog also displays the current volume and the sound output level coming through the device.
If you just want to switch between default audio devices e.g. headphones to speakers, this thing does it's job. Mostly. It has a few bugs when I tried it; the main window having difficulty showing itself (Had to minimize all my windows). Note: this only allows you to change playback devices, there is no way to change recording device with it.
The volume slider looked promising but tbh, it has a mind of it's own, and will glitch out at times. There is OSD support, but they seem to be mostly lifted from 3RVX, which what I'd recommend to use instead. Last update was in 2017 as well.
The alternative apps were all a bit heavy / fully featured. I just wanted to be able to switch between speakers and headphones conveniently from the system tray - and that is exactly what this does!
