I dislike Android supremely. It is the brainchild of Google and is full of its proprietary junk, trackers, and ads. Sure it has a WONDERFUL selection of apps if you don't care about potential malware, viruses, and further tracking.

It does have a nice interface and, with F-Droid, a truly great selection of apps but it is just too proprietary and Google gets too much of my information through this mobile OS.

in it's AOSP (Android Open Source Project) pure form it's a staple OS for smartphones. unfortunely, what many people don't realise is they don't have the original AOSP operating system in their smart phones - barely anyone does.

they are running modified proprietary versions tweaked by the device's manufacturer, bundled with proprietary google apps (and some times the manufacturers') without giving you the option to get rid of them, much less the back-bone of google apps: the Google Services Framework which will keep track of most activity on your device and send it back home to google servers

Highly customizable and easy to use.

Android is a great operating system for mobile, and the market leader in terms of number of devices. Google's penetration into the market, though, as opposed to shipping a stock android without Google, and allowing customer to choose what apps they want, is disappointing. This is quickly solved by using LineageOS or another custom ROM, developed directly from the Android Open Source Project.
