All the courses are free to take, no monthly fee which is great as it doesn't make you feel you run out of time. You can truly take any course you want in your own piece. There are many categories and need to pay only to remove ads or to get a certificate, diploma or a letter as proof of your achievement. Unfortunately, as of today the Alison certificate and diploma is not recognised by any institution. However, to get a certification at Alison you need to do more than just watch the videos. At Alison you do need to go through all the modules and then take an assessment with the result of 80% or more to be qualified for a certificate or diploma. Even though it is not recognised but still an achievement that you can be proud of because you can't cheat. In order to complete the assessment you do need to know the content. If you fail or not happy with your result, you can take it again but then you get different questions and tasks so it is not easy to memorize the questions and answers and unless you have prior knowledge you can't just rush through the course. Alison also track how many times did you take an assessment and give you a score for that too, which if you take seriously can motivate you to be certain you know the content before taking the assessment. Among all the free learning sites but even compared to some paid ones I tried, Alison truly take assessment and certification seriously. Alison also provide an unique student ID number that is displayed on your certificate, diploma, you can also display it at your portfolio site and social media profile and employers can use it to confirm your achievements at Alison in case they want it. Which is really make an Alison certificate and diploma feel more relevant than other free or paid course you can take and get a "Well Done! You did it!" achievement at the end that looks like a certificate but really it is not.

I tried many similar online learning sites paid and free, but I find Alison being the most balanced between a free service to learn skills you need for your hobby and a paid service to learn skills you need and get certification to start a career and get a job.
It does offer good quality content even compared to paid services and the fact you can get a certificate at the end that can be backtracked by employers is a really nice touch even if it cost money to get.
