Great App for instant Recovery!

about Actifend · · Helpful Not helpful

Hi,
Have used this app recently for protecting my website. I found it extremely simple to use and effective. I get all my alerts on my phone which really helps as I am not always on my mail. Plus it allows me to instantly recover my website in case i am hacked. Good one to use

The only mobile app based website security monitoring

Actifend is the only real time monitoring and alerting security product that also sends push notifications through a mobile app. Very useful for those who want immediate alerts and still be able to go about their daily work without being chained to a desk.

Good idea, can be better

Never seen a web security app on mobile before a colleague mentioned it. It was available only for WordPress.. that's good and bad. Many of my customers run non-WP sites too. But I tried.

  1. Getting started was possible from WP Admin panel. That worked very well.
  2. Could also do the same from inside the mobile app, it looked easy too... but it seemed to work well only for default installs. After checking with their support, it was an easy fix, but still ...
  3. Their main screen is a simple dashboard. Says whether the site is up or not, how long it has been up, and shows hourly traffic trends. Nice. Not super important for me, but may be a lot of people will find it useful.
  4. Apparently, it immediately takes a backup for your site in a secure remote cloud storage. This turned out useful. More on this below.
  5. The next day, I had alerts on my app. I didn't know that I was using a few outdated plugins. That was caught by ActiFend and that raised alerts. I think some other plugins also give this feature, but none of them do it on a mobile app. Is that a better way? For me, yes.
  6. The biggest promise is that it catches hacks. Just to check, I changed a file... and got an alert on my phone within seconds. The whole screen in the app turned red, I couldn't ignore the alert or the screen. I pretended that it was a hack and confirmed it. I got a message saying my site will be restored.
  7. It took some time. May be 5 minutes and I got another alert that all is well, my website is restored.
I hope I never get hacked. But if I do, this may just be the insurance I need. Of course, I could backup my site everyday but I'm lazy sometimes, and forgetful other times. I don't want to suffer just because I was busy for a few days and forgot to take a backup.
