0x10c is a sci-fi game with untextured polygonal graphics that resemble what people thought the future would look like in the 80s. You can fly around in space to harvest minerals and loot abandoned spaceships in a ship that you have created using an editor.

It looks like the project is pretty dead right now, as there has not been any updates in the past year, and Notch/Markus Persson has said that it is permanently shelved. http://www.reddit.com/r/0x10c/comments/1poxvl/exactly_1_year_ago_today_since_the_last_blog_post/ and http://notch.tumblr.com/post/58707926941/so-thats-what-im-going-to-do

This game isn't discontinued so much as it is pure vaporware. The developer got started on it, and talked about it so it got hyped. The developer even shared what the in game computer instruction set was, so future players could get started writing actual code for the in game computer. Then the developer moved on to other things. So, is there a tag for vaporware?
For what it's worth, what you described sounds like a case of discontinued software: "The developer moved on to other things." If this isn't open-source, it's essentially dead in the water.
(for an example, see here).
