    webtrees is a free open source online collaborative genealogy application, it works with standard GEDCOM files and is installed on a webserver using PHP and MySQL.Historywebtrees is a fork of PhpGedView, it was created in early 2010, when a majority of active PhpGedView developers stopped using SourceForge due to issues with exporting encrypted software. webtrees is the second fork of PhpGedView.     As you go back in time the profiles become more collaborative. Merges are done individually and profile managers on both sides have to agree to them, but you are supposed to merge duplicates. The community uses an Honor Code to keep things in order.

Users may add birth, death, and marriage dates; notes about where their ancestors lived, their profession, hobbies and interests; and picture of ancestors. The program can also create charts that show how two people are related. Users can build their family tree either offline or online, and offline trees can be published to the family site.FTB has a Smart Matching feature, which searches the MyHeritage database looking for family tree profiles that match.
