These games are no doubt great. I highly recommend all of them save Old Man's Journey because I haven't played it yet.

The problem is they're almost all paid, some require WiFi and, to top it off, they use up a lot of storage space. So even though they are fantastic, I personally don't think they cater to the public that's just "bored in the waiting room". More like the public that has spare money, loads of storage space and is looking for a memorable mobile experience -- rather than buying them on the PC, like most allow for.

By the way, since I posted this I played Old Man's Journey on the PC and it was fantastic. So I'm recommending that one as well.

But no one is going to play these if you have to buy it and some of these require wifi.

I can recommend some other games that I've enjoyed:

  • Cat Bird. A platformer that's cute, fun, and surprisingly difficult! Great level design. Free with ads.
  • Mekorama. Charming puzzle game where you move a tiny robot within different dioramas. Great level design and includes a simple level editor. User-made levels really expand the game, but the way you download these is a bit awkward. Very lightweight app and is completely free with no ads but an option to tip the developer.
  • Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. A relaxing game where you complete different tasks for animals. You can build a campsite by buying or crafting different furniture, befriend different animals, and more. Good for short sessions. Free with IAP.
  • Puzzlerama. Puzzle game with a focus on variety and quantity. Different levels of difficulty. Nothing too noteworthy but it's good for spending a few minutes of free time. Free with ads and IAP.
  • Any Nitrome game ever. They just make splendid games of all kinds, particularly platformers. I recommend checking out Leap Day, Flat Pack, and Tower Fortress. Their games are usually free with ads.

The Room is a must-have. Support for all the way back to the 4S, while allowing for amazing visuals, and its own atmosphere. I would know, since I finished all 4. Gave me goosebumps on the final game’s ending.
