    Webtrees is a free, open source, website based, collaborative genealogy application. It works with standard GEDCOM files and is installed on a web server using PHP and MySQL (or Postgres, SQL Server, or SQLite).

    History:
    Webtrees is a fork of PhpGedView, it was created in early 2010, when a majority of active PhpGedView developers stopped using SourceForge. Webtrees is the second fork of PhpGedView. In late 2005 the first one, called Genmod, was created.On 26 July 2010, a month before version 1.0.0 of webtrees was released, Dick Eastman, who publishes Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter, introduced webtrees as "the wave of the future."

    Webtrees version 2.0.0 was released December 7th 2019. It runs on PHP 7.1 - 7.4.

    The WikiTree community is growing a free worldwide family tree. The site is 100% free. There are no premium memberships. All content is contributed by the users and you can keep copyrights. You can also keep modern profiles private or even hidden altogether.

    As you go back in time the profiles become more collaborative. Merges are done individually and profile managers on both sides have to agree to them, but you are supposed to merge duplicates. The community uses an Honor Code to keep things in order.

    WikiTree started in 2008 and has been growing slowly and steadily. It's now widely respected in genealogy circles and has thousands of active contributors.

    MyHeritage is a family-oriented social network service and genealogy website. It allows members to create their own family websites, share pictures and videos, organize family events,create family trees, and search for ancestors. With 75 million registered users, 27 million family trees, 1.5 billion profiles and 5.2 billion historical records, MyHeritage is one of the largest sites in the social networking and genealogy field.For Windows is available Family Tree Builder (FTB), a Genealogy software to create family trees. The free download version is distributed as freeware, with no restrictions, no registration is required to download the software. Users may pay a fee to "unlock" the additional features in the Premium version. Users may add birth, death, and marriage dates; notes about where their ancestors lived, their profession, hobbies and interests; and picture of ancestors. The program can also create charts that show how two people are related. Users can build their family tree either offline or online, and offline trees can be published to the family site.FTB has a Smart Matching feature, which searches the MyHeritage database looking for family tree profiles that match. The program checks the name, birth date, and parents of the entries in the database, and when it finds similar tree profiles, tells the user who created each tree, who may then confirm the match or not. This allows people to share their family trees and genealogy research with the entire MyHeritage community. Genealogists can find other family historians who have common ancestors, and fill in holes in their family tree that other people have completed. FamilySearch maintains a collection of records, resources, and services designed to help people learn more about their family history. It offers free access to its resources and service online at FamilySearch.org, one of the most heavily used genealogy sites on the Internet. In addition, FamilySearch offers personal assistance at more than 5,100 family history centers in 140 countries.

    Use of the historical record search and contributing to the Family Tree require a free registered account. The Family Tree section allows users to collaborate on a single, shared, worldwide family tree. It contains over a billion names.

    The FamilySearch.org website offers access to digital images of genealogical records. These images can be searched along with a number of databases. It also contains the catalog of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. The library holds genealogical records for over 110 countries, territories, and possessions, including over 2.4 million rolls of microfilmed genealogical records; 742,000 microfiche; 310,000 books, serials, and other formats; and 4,500 periodicals. FamilySearch also offers research help through the Family History Research Wiki, Forums, digitized books, and online free family history courses through the Learning Centre.

    FamilySearch.org has two apps the FamilySearch Family Tree app and the FamilySearch Memories app. Currently both of these apps provide support for iOS and Android and are available in 10 different languages. Both of these apps are available to download for free. These allow the user to look up their own family history and archive stories and photos onto their servers.

    Then, the second concept was to display the maximum information with a minimum of clicks.

    For example, notes and sources are displayed on-line in the third vertical sector of the screen.
