Iridium Browser is based on the Chromium code base. All modifications enhance the privacy of the user and make sure that the latest and best secure technologies are used. There are many browsers out there. To our belief, Chrome is fast, stable, and user-friendly, but does not meet many organizations’ demands for security. Since the tight integration with its inventor (Google) makes many things easier, it does not comply to restrictive data environments. Iridium is not another new browser from scratch. It takes the Chromium code base, which is also used for the official Chrome browser, and enhances its security and sets certain policies by default. There are many forks of Chromium-based browsers, yet, in our opinion, they failed in many other key areas important for adoption:
Transparency: With Iridium Browser, the whole process is entirely transparent. The public Git repository allows a direct view of all changes made. The complete source code is therefore available, and unlike other providers, not only binary builds of which it is unknown what has been changed.
Security: Iridium Browser has various enhancements where it forces strict security to provide the maximum level of security without compromising compatibility.
Availability: Our goal is to provide Iridium Browser on the most common desktop platforms that the majority of users run on, including Linux, Windows and OS X.
Deployability: We try to distribute it in ways where it allows easy installation and yet allows administrators to deploy it easily. An example is an MSI-based installation mechanism for easy deployments throughout an entire organization.
Secure and end-to-end encrypted personal information sync for Android, the desktop and the web. Currently supports calendars, contacts and tasks (using OpenTasks), with more on the way.
In order to use this application you need to have an account with EteSync (paid hosting), or run your own instance (free and open source). Check out https://www.etesync.com/ for more information.
Easy to Use
EteSync is very easy to use. It seamlessly integrates with Android so you won't even notice you are using it. Security doesn't always have to come at a cost.
Secure & Open
Thanks to zero-knowledge end-to-end encryption, not even we can see your data. Don't believe us? You shouldn't, just verify yourself, both the client and server are open source.
Full History
A full history of your data is saved in an encrypted tamper-proof journal which means you can review, replay and revert any changes you have made at any point in time.
How does it work?
EteSync integrates seamlessly with your existing apps. All you need to do is sign up (or run your own instance), install the app, and enter your password. After that, you will be able to save your contacts, calendar events and tasks to EteSync using your existing Android apps, and EteSync will transparently encrypt your data and update the change journal in the background. More security, same work-flow.

Bitmessage is a P2P communications protocol used to send encrypted messages to another person or to many subscribers. It is decentralized and trustless, meaning that you need-not inherently trust any entities like root certificate authorities. It uses strong authentication which means that the sender of a message cannot be spoofed, and it aims to hide "non-content" data, like the sender and receiver of messages, from passive eavesdroppers like those running warrantless wiretapping programs. If Bitmessage is completely new to you, you may wish to start by reading the whitepaper.

VeraCrypt is a free and libre source (open source) disk encryption software brought to you by https://www.idrix.fr
Features:
• Creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk. • Encrypts an entire partition or storage device such as USB flash drive or hard drive. • Encrypts a partition or drive where Windows is installed (pre-boot authentication). • Encryption is automatic, real-time (on-the-fly) and transparent. • Parallelization and pipelining allow data to be read and written as fast as if the drive was not encrypted. • Encryption can be hardware-accelerated on modern processors. • Provides plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces you to reveal the password: Hidden volume (steganography) and hidden operating system. • Multilingual. More than 35 languages. List at https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/code/ci/master/tree/Translations • More information about the features of VeraCrypt may be found in this documentation at https://veracrypt.fr/en/Documentation.html
VeraCrypt is based on TrueCrypt 7.1a at TrueCrypt . In comparison to TrueCrypt, VeraCrypt adds enhanced security to the algorithms used for system and partitions encryption, making it immune to new developments in brute-force attacks.
For example, when the system partition is encrypted, TrueCrypt uses PBKDF2-RIPEMD160 with 1000 iterations whereas in VeraCrypt we use 327670. And for standard containers and other partitions, TrueCrypt uses at most 2000 iterations but VeraCrypt uses 655340 for RIPEMD160 and 500000 iterations for SHA-2 and Whirlpool.
VeraCrypt is licensed with both Apache 2.0 and TrueCrypt 3.0 licenses. Per https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/code/ci/master/tree/License.txt#l24
Bitwarden is the easiest and safest way to store all of your logins and passwords while conveniently keeping them synced between all of your devices.
Password theft is a serious problem. The websites and apps that you use are under attack every day. Security breaches occur and your passwords are stolen. When you reuse the same passwords across apps and websites hackers can easily access your email, bank, and other important accounts.
Security experts recommend that you use a different, randomly generated password for every account that you create. But how do you manage all those passwords? Bitwarden makes it easy for you to create, store, and access your passwords.
Bitwarden stores all of your logins in an encrypted vault that syncs across all of your devices. Since it's fully encrypted before it ever leaves your device, only you have access to your data. Not even the team at Bitwarden can read your data, even if we wanted to. Your data is sealed with AES-256 bit encryption, salted hashing, and PBKDF2 SHA-256.
Bitwarden is 100% open source software. The source code for Bitwarden is hosted on GitHub and everyone is free to review, audit, and contribute to the Bitwarden codebase.

Unsatisfied with the few link sharing communities that were available and their proprietary, untransparent and non-secure nature, ziq made the original raddle.me (then known as raddit.me) with Wordpress, but it had a lot of limitations.
The plan from the start was to replace the clunky Wordpress site with a site built from scratch. We were incredibly fortunate that emma volunteered to single-handedly make this a reality.
About 6 months later, we relaunched as this fully featured FOSS link sharing site without any of reddit, voat or imzy's bloat, and with a mission statement to give the people control over their own community, with full transparency and accountability between mods, admins and users.
Raddle will always have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to fascist ideas and bigotry, and this is one of the things that sets us apart from other online communities.
This site was made by the people for the people, and actualizing the community's ideas to construct the best possible meeting place is our entire motivation.
We run raddle according to the principles of mutual aid, direct democracy, freedom of association (you can easily block users you don't want to be around), direct action (e.g. we require that mods remove racism from their subs, and admins ban fascists site-wide), user privacy / security, moderator transparency, and free and open source software.
We have no ads, no tracking, no user profiling and we don't collect or share any user data with anyone (IP addresses of new accounts are only stored for 24 hours before being wiped by the system). We maintain a monthly warrant canary for peace of mind. All we ask of you is that you be respectful of your fellow raddlers.
The site is developed and managed entirely by its own community.
Online communities are in a precarious and unhealthy state right now.
Major internet platforms are exhibiting a wide range of issues: they collect our personal data and fail to protect it; amplify outrage and encourage mob harassment; spread false information and radicalize viewpoints; and allow racism and hate speech to propagate. These are all incredibly serious issues, yet they're still only a small sample of the problems that are becoming apparent.
The companies behind the platforms know their products cause these negative effects, but they've decided to treat them as acceptable costs instead of taking decisive action to address the issues. Only legal or public pressure seem to produce meaningful responses.
Pixelfed is an image sharing platform with focus on Privacy, Safety and Security, an ethical alternative to centralized platforms like Instagram. Federated (A network of millions), Ad-Free, No algorithms (Timelines in order), No 3rd party analytics or tracking. Can run on your own server.
You are being watched. Private and state-sponsored organizations are monitoring and recording your online activities. privacytools.io provides services, tools and knowledge to protect your privacy against global mass surveillance.
Friendica is a distributed social network application. Which allow users to connect with others via their own Friendica server, but may also fully integrate contacts from other platforms including Twitter, diaspora*, Pump.io and StatusNet into their 'newsfeed'. In addition to these two way connections, users can also use Friendica as a publishing platform to post content to Google+, Google Buzz, WordPress, Tumblr, GNU-social, and Libertree. The list of supported networks is growing. In addition, e-mail contacts and RSS feeds can be integrated.
The developers argue that decentralization on small servers is a key condition for the freedom of users and their self-determination.
There are two options to choose from to try Friendica. The first option is to join one of the already installed Friendica server listed at http://dir.friendica.social/servers The second option is to install your own server at https://github.com/friendica/friendica/releases Both options are fully free.
Friendica runs on commodity hosting platforms powered by PHP/MySQL/Apache. If you can install Drupal or Wordpress you can probably install Friendica. A single Friendica installation supports up to several thousand members.
Every Friendica installation can connect with any other to create a social network without limits. And one that nobody can own or control.
Mastodon is a Free and Open Source federated social network, made with a focus on more personal interaction.
The biggest difference between Mastodon and many other social networks is that even though a Mastodon website (called an instance) can operate alone, they can interoperate through AcitivityPub, letting their users on different, independent, instances communicate with each other. This is called federation, and it even works with instances running different software like PeerTube and Pixelfed

Cryptomator provides transparent, client-side encryption for your cloud. Protect your documents from unauthorized access. Cryptomator is free and open source software, so you can rest assured there are no backdoors.
Easy and Reliable
We understand simplicity as a key aspect of security. With Cryptomator you don't have to deal with accounts, key management, cloud access grants or cipher configurations. Just choose a password and you're ready to go.
You don't even need to specify what cloud you use. Cryptomator encrypts files and doesn't care where you store them. This makes it a lightweight application, which we believe is a huge benefit for reliability. Complexity would kill security.
Cryptomator is a so-called transparent encryption utility. This means that you don't have to learn new workflows. Just work with your files as you're used to.
Secure and Trustworthy
Cryptomator encrypts file contents and names using AES. Your passphrase is protected against bruteforcing attempts using scrypt. Directory structures and file sizes get obfuscated. The only thing which cannot be encrypted without breaking your cloud synchronization is the modification date of your files.
Cryptomator's desktop app is a free and open source software licensed under the MIT / X Consortium License. This allows anyone to check our code. It is impossible to introduce backdoors for third parties. Also we cannot hide vulnerabilities. And the best thing is: There is no need to trust us, as you can control us!
Vendor lock-ins are impossible. Even if we decided to stop development: The desktop source code is already cloned by hundreds of other developers. As you don't need an account, you will never stand in front of locked doors.

The Debian Project is an association of individuals who have made common cause to create a free operating system. This operating system that we have created is called Debian.
An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. At the core of an operating system is the kernel. The kernel is the most fundamental program on the computer and does all the basic housekeeping and lets you start other programs.
Debian systems currently use the Linux kernel or the FreeBSD kernel. Linux is a piece of software started by Linus Torvalds and supported by thousands of programmers worldwide. FreeBSD is an operating system including a kernel and other software.
However, work is in progress to provide Debian for other kernels, primarily for the Hurd. The Hurd is a collection of servers that run on top of a microkernel (such as Mach) to implement different features. The Hurd is free software produced by the GNU project.
A large part of the basic tools that fill out the operating system come from the GNU project; hence the names: GNU/Linux, GNU/kFreeBSD, and GNU/Hurd. These tools are also free.
Of course, the thing that people want is application software: programs to help them get what they want to do done, from editing documents to running a business to playing games to writing more software. Debian comes with over 51000 packages (precompiled software that is bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine), a package manager (APT), and other utilities that make it possible to manage thousands of packages on thousands of computers as easily as installing a single application. All of it free.
It's a bit like a tower. At the base is the kernel. On top of that are all the basic tools. Next is all the software that you run on the computer. At the top of the tower is Debian — carefully organizing and fitting everything so it all works together.
Terms of Service; Didn't Read (ToS;DR) is an active project to fix the biggest lie on the web. We help you understand the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policies of websites.
Terms of service are often too long to read, but it's important to understand what's in them. Your rights online depend on them. Get informed about your rights by installing the browser extension for Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Safari.
Examples:
Facebook
- Very broad copyright license on your content -> No promise to inform about government requests
- Facebook automatically shares your data with many other services

Bromite is a Chromium fork with support for ad blocking and enhanced privacy.
Bromite aims at providing a no-clutter browsing experience without privacy-invasive features and with the addition of a fast ad-blocking engine. Minimal UI changes are applied to help curbing the idea of "browser as an advertisement platform".
Bromite is only available for Android Marshmallow (v6.0, API level 23) and above.
Peer-to-peer ephemeral public communities Open source, self-governing communities with auditable moderation and mod elections
Ephemeral
It keeps 6 months of posts by default. It's gone after. If something is worth keeping, someone will save it within six months — but not from beyond that. If you screw up, argue for the wrong opinion, and then think otherwise, that's okay. No one is going to come after you — it gives you the freedom to be wrong, and move on.
Privacy-sensitive
It's peer-to-peer, and it has no servers. It's privacy sensitive because of that, source IP of any specific public post cannot (easily) be determined. Aether is private by default, so that you can choose to be fully private, or fully public yourself. Most people use pseudonyms, though you can use your real name, or company.
Transparent
Actions of moderators are visible to users. No content can just 'disappear', if something gets deleted, you'll know who did it, why they did it, and if you want, how to get it back. Everyone watches the watchmen. Moderation is important for healthy communities, and Aether adds onto it some checks-and-balances.
Democratic
Communities can elect and impeach their own mods by voting. If a mod behaves inappropriately, users can disable that mod locally as well. Doing so reverts all changes by that moderator for the user, and counts for one impeachment vote.
Data is encrypted/decrypted in the browser using 256bit AES in Galois Counter mode.
This is a fork of ZeroBin, originally developed by Sébastien Sauvage. It was refactored to allow easier and cleaner extensions and has now much more features than the original. It is however still fully compatible to the original ZeroBin 0.19 data storage scheme. Therefore such installations can be upgraded to this fork without loosing any data.
What PrivateBin provides
-
As a server administrator you don't have to worry if your users post content that is considered illegal in your country. You have no knowledge of any of the pastes content. If requested or enforced, you can delete any paste from your system.
-
Pastebin-like system to store text documents, code samples, etc.
-
Encryption of data sent to server.
-
Possibility to set a password which is required to read the paste. It further protects a paste and prevents people stumbling upon your paste's link from being able to read it without the password.
Options
Some features are optional and can be enabled or disabled in the configuration file:
- Password protection
- Discussions, anonymous or with nicknames and IP based identicons or vizhashes
- Expiration times, including a "forever" and "burn after reading" option
- Markdown format support for HTML formatted pastes, including preview function
- Syntax highlighting for source code using prettify.js, including 4 prettify themes
- File upload support, images get displayed (disabled by default, possibility to adjust size limit)
- Templates: By default there are bootstrap CSS, darkstrap and "classic ZeroBin" themes and it is easy to adapt these to your own websites layout or create your own.
- Translation system and automatic browser language detection (if enabled in browser)
- Language selection (disabled by default, as it uses a session cookie)

Keybase is a messaging platform where:
- you can write securely to any twitter, reddit, facebook, github, and hacker news user
- you don't need to know someone's phone number or email address
- all messages are secure, end-to-end encrypted
- multi-device: your messages survive and transfer with encryption to new phones & computers
- free for everyone, and free of ads
- open source
- multi-platform, w/apps for macOS, Linux, and Windows
KeePass is a free open source password manager, which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure way. You can put all your passwords in one database, which is locked with one master key or a key file. So you only have to remember one single master password or select the key file to unlock the whole database. The databases are encrypted using the best and most secure encryption algorithms currently known (AES and Twofish).
Websites have increasingly begun to rely much more on large third-parties for content delivery. Canceling requests for ads or trackers is usually without issue, however blocking actual content, not unexpectedly, breaks pages. The aim of this add-on is to cut-out the middleman by providing lightning speed delivery of local (bundled) files to improve online privacy.
• Protects privacy by evading large delivery networks that claim to offer free services. • Complements regular blockers such as uBlock Origin (recommended), Adblock Plus, et al. • Works directly out of the box; absolutely no prior configuration required.
Decentraleyes is no silver bullet, but it does prevent a lot of websites from making you send these kinds of requests. Ultimately, you can make Decentraleyes block requests for missing CDN resources, too.

Gnuzilla is the GNU version of the Mozilla suite, and GNU IceCat is the GNU version of the Mozilla Firefox browser. Its main advantage is an ethical one: it is entirely free software. While the principal source code from the Mozilla project is free software, the distribution contains various problematic files, the EULA they require for use of their binaries is troublesome, and they distribute and recommend non-free software as plug-ins. In addition, GNU IceCat includes some privacy protection features, included in a separate addon.

Qwant is a European web search engine, launched in July 2013 and operated from Paris. It is the only EU-based search engine with its own indexing engine. It claims not to employ user tracking and doesn't personalize search results in order to avoid trapping users in a filter bubble. It is available in 13 languages.
Since its release, Petey Vid has already indexed over 30 million videos, and continues to grow its content. Petey Vid is an intelligent system that populates itself based on the searches users make – without saving their IPs /search histories. It’s also the first video search engine to allow users to toggle between list and grid views, lending to its user-friendly interface.
According to a Cisco study, over 80% of global internet traffic (and 85% of U.S. internet traffic) will be a result of online video services in 2019. Petey Vid is a unique bid to meet this rising demand, and in the context of Erie Data Systems’ larger vision and history, Petey Vid is yet another step toward providing unique data both locally and worldwide. Erie Data Systems is an Erie, PA.-based big data/search company.
YaCy is a free search engine that anyone can use to build a search portal for their intranet or to help search the public internet. When contributing to the world-wide peer network, the scale of YaCy is limited only by the number of users in the world and can index billions of web pages. It is fully decentralized, all users of the search engine network are equal, the network does not store user search requests and it is not possible for anyone to censor the content of the shared index.
Infinity Search is a privacy search engine that is completely customizable and focused on user efficiency.
Mojeek, the alternative search engine that puts the people who use it first.
We like to do things differently...
That's why we're on a mission to build the world's alternative search engine; a search engine that does what's right, that values and respects your privacy, whilst providing its own unique and unbiased search results.
Search is often considered the gateway to the Web, which is why we believe it's critical that choices exist, choices that take a different approach. By putting the people who use Mojeek first and using technology built from the ground-up, we're here to offer that choice.
Features:
• Search that doesn't follow you around • Independent and Unbiased Search Results • Search technology created from the ground up • Hosted and run from the UK's greenest data centre
Searx is a free internet metasearch engine which aggregates results from more than 70 search services. Users are neither tracked nor profiled. Additionally, searx can be used over Tor for online anonymity.
Why use Searx?
- Searx may not offer you as personalised results as Google, but it doesn't generate a profile about you
- Searx doesn't care about what you search for, never shares anything with a third party, and it can't be used to compromise you
- Searx is free software, the code is 100% open and you can help to make it better. See more on GitHub
If you do care about privacy, want to be a conscious user, or otherwise believe in digital freedom, make Searx your default search engine or run it on your own server
Technical details - How does it work?
Searx is a metasearch engine, inspired by the seeks project. It provides basic privacy by mixing your queries with searches on other platforms without storing search data. Queries are made using a POST request on every browser (except chrome*). Therefore they show up in neither our logs, nor your URL history. In case of Chrome* users there is an exception, Searx uses the search bar to perform GET requests. Searx can be added to your browser's search bar; moreover, it can be set as the default search engine.
Search Encrypt was designed from the ground up with privacy as its core value. Search Encrypt protects your privacy by encrypting your search terms, expiring your browsing history, and forcing advanced SSL encryption.
MetaGer is an open source metasearch engine focused on protecting users' privacy. Based in Germany, and hosted as a cooperation between the German NGO 'SUMA-EV - Association for Free Access to Knowledge' and the University of Hannover, the system is built on 24 small-scale web crawlers under MetaGer's own control. In September 2013, MetaGer launched MetaGer.net, an English-language version of their search engine.
Features: • Libre Source (Open Source). If you are not familiar with "Libre Source", it means this software has both stronger security & stronger privacy. Because its code is publicly available for review and contributions on GitLab at https://gitlab.metager.de/open-source/MetaGer • Attractive GNU General Public version 3 & MIT licenses. This means the software code is owned and supported by a friendly not-for-profit community. Instead of a for-profit corporation. • No censorship by combining the results of multiple search engines • Algorithms are transparent and available for everyone to read • Run by a Nonprofit Organization • Powered by 100% renewable energy • Optional, dark theme
Falkon, formerly QupZilla, is a QtWebEngine based cross-platform web browser.
It aims to be a lightweight web browser available through all major platforms.
Falkon has all standard functions you expect from a web browser. It includes bookmarks, history (both also in sidebar) and tabs. Above that, it has by default enabled blocking ads with a built-in AdBlock plugin.
During the Akademy 2017 Konqueror BoF, the ex-maintainer of Konqueror , David Faure, proposed to integrate QupZilla into KDE in order to replace the aging Konqueror. His reasoning is that QupZilla is already much more advanced in terms of webbrowsing features, and there is almost nobody working in Konqueror, so there is no point in duplicating efforts.
The Tor software protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location, and it lets you access sites which are blocked.
The Tor Browser lets you use Tor on Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux without needing to install any software. It can run off a USB flash drive, comes with a pre-configured web browser to protect your anonymity, and is self-contained.
elementary OS is a free, fast and aesthetically pleasing operating system based on Ubuntu .
elementary OS ships with a carefully curated selection of apps that cater to every day needs so you can spend more time using your computer and less time cleaning up bloatware.
Qubes is an open source operating system designed to provide strong security for desktop computing.
Qubes takes an approach called security by compartmentalization, which allows you to compartmentalize the various parts of your digital life into securely isolated compartments called qubes.
This approach allows you to keep the different things you do on your computer securely separated from each other in isolated qubes so that one qube getting compromised won’t affect the others. For example, you might have one qube for visiting untrusted websites and a different qube for doing online banking. This way, if your untrusted browsing qube gets compromised by a malware-laden website, your online banking activities won’t be at risk. Similarly, if you’re concerned about malicious email attachments, Qubes can make it so that every attachment gets opened in its own single-use disposable qube. In this way, Qubes allows you to do everything on the same physical computer without having to worry about a single successful cyberattack taking down your entire digital life in one fell swoop.
PeerTube is a free, decentralized and federated video platform developed as an alternative to other platforms that centralize our data and attention, such as YouTube, Dailymotion or Vimeo. But one organization hosting PeerTube alone may not have enough money to pay for bandwidth and video storage of its servers, all servers of PeerTube are interoperable as a federated network, and non-PeerTube servers can be part of the larger Vidiverse (federated video network) by talking our implementation of ActivityPub. Video load is reduced thanks to P2P (BitTorrent) in the web browser via WebTorrent.
Video streaming Just upload your videos, and be sure they will stream anywhere. Add a description, some tags and your video will be discoverable by the entire video fediverse, not just your instance. You can even embed a player on your favorite website!
Keep in touch with video creators Follow your favorite channels from PeerTube or really any other place. No need to have an account on the instance you watched a video to follow its author, you can do all of that from the Fediverse (Mastodon, Pleroma…), or just with RSS.
An interface to call home Be it as a user or an instance administrator, you can decide what your experience will be like. Don't like the colors? They are easy to change. Don't want to list videos of an instance but let your users subscribe to them? Don't like the regular web client? All of that can be changed, and much more. No UX dark pattern, no mining your data, no video recommendation bullshit.
Communities that help each other In addition to visitors using WebTorrent to share the load among them, instances can help each other by caching one another's videos. This way even small instances have a way to show content to a wider audience, as they will be shouldered by friend instances. Content creators can get help from their viewers in the simplest way possible: a support button showing a message linking to their donation accounts or really anything else.
Syncthing replaces proprietary sync and cloud services with something open, trustworthy and decentralized. Your data is your data alone and you deserve to choose where it is stored, if it is shared with some third party and how it's transmitted over the Internet.
Private. None of your data is ever stored anywhere else other than on your computers. There is no central server that might be compromised, legally or illegally. Encrypted. All communication is secured using TLS. The encryption used includes perfect forward secrecy to prevent any eavesdropper from ever gaining access to your data. Authenticated. Every node is identified by a strong cryptographic certificate. Only nodes you have explicitly allowed can connect to your cluster.

- Mailfence is a complete email suite offering tools such as a Mailfence Calendar, Mailfence Documents and Mailfence Groups.
- Mailfence is inter-operable with any other OpenPGP compatible encrypted email service.
- All encryption operations take place in the browser making it a “true” end-to-end encrypted email solution.
- Mailfence integrates digital signatures.
- Mailfence gives full control over key management with an integrated keystore.
- Mailfence is available as progressive web application (PWA) for iPhone and Android to be completely independent of the big tech players.
This add-on allows users to prevent websites from using the Javascript <canvas> API to fingerprint them. Users can choose to block the <canvas> API entirely on some or all websites (which may break some websites) or just block or fake its fingerprinting-friendly readout API. More information on <canvas> fingerprinting can be found at http://www.browserleaks.com/canvas.
The different block modes are:
• block readout API: All websites not on the white list or black list can use the <canvas> API to display something on the page, but the readout API is not allowed to return values to the website. • fake readout API: Canvas Blocker's default setting, and my favorite! All websites not on the white list or black list can use the <canvas> API to display something on the page, but the readout API is forced to return a new random value each time it is called. • fake at input: on display of text the drawn pixels get modified slightly. This makes the detection of the add-on harder but is less secure. On WebGL-canvas the behaviour is identical to "fake readout API". • ask for readout API permission: All websites not on the white list or black list can use the <canvas> API to display something on the page, but the user will be asked if the website should be allowed to use the readout API each time it is called. • block everything: Ignore all lists and block the <canvas> API on all websites. • allow only white list: Only websites in the white list are allowed to use the <canvas> API. • ask for permission: If a website is not listed on the white list or black list, the user will be asked if the website should be allowed to use the <canvas> API each time it is called. • block only black list: Block the <canvas> API only for websites on the black list. • allow everything: Ignore all lists and allow the <canvas> API on all websites.
Protected "fingerprinting" APIs:
• canvas 2d • webGL • audio • history • window (disabled by default) • DOMRect
When you visit a website, you are allowing that site to access a lot of information about your computer's configuration. Combined, this information can create a kind of fingerprint — a signature that could be used to identify you and your computer. Some companies use this technology to try to identify individual computers.
In 2010, EFF launched Cover Your Tracks, a research project to investigate how unique each browser is. We gathered information about the configuration and version information from your operating system, your browser, and your plug-ins, and compared it to our database of many other Internet users' configurations. Then, we generated a uniqueness score — letting you see how easily identifiable you might be as you surf the web.
In 2015, we upgraded Cover Your Tracks with a new feature: tracker blocker testing. Million of Internet users are using privacy add-ons and other tools to block trackers, including tools like AdBlock, Ghostery and Disconnect. But how well do these add-ons actually protect users from invasive tracking?
Our new version of Cover Your Tracks researches both. We analyze how well you are protected against online tracking by checking the privacy protections you have in place. The test simulates loading of a visible ad that performs tracking, an invisible script that performs tracking, and a site that looks superficially like a tracker but actually has committed to honor Do Not Track.
Even if your privacy add-ons are working well, you may still be vulnerable if your browser fingerprint is unique. So we also analyze the uniqueness of your browser and let you know how it stacks up to other visitors we’ve observed recently.
We generate a report about your tracker protections and browser fingerprint for your own use, and we’ll include anonymous results from your test in our larger research report.

Epik has a long-standing reputation for protecting the registrant. Known as the Swiss Bank of Domains, Epik offers all registrants access to state of the art domain security. Integrated WHOIS privacy services are provided at no cost to registrants.
The Epik domain marketplace allows cost-efficient and secure buying, selling and leasing of domain names. Epik is the largest domain name lease management provider in the world, powering more domain name leases than any other provider.
We're a different type of domain name registration service!
We care about your right to privacy. We believe it's an important piece of democracy that we have the right to be anonymous.
Njalla was started because we couldn't find a domain name service that we ourselves wanted to use. Our goals are to be caring about privacy, simple and flexible.
When you buy a domain in our system, we're actually purchasing it for ourselves. We will be the actual owners of the domain, it's not an ownership by proxy as found with all other providers. However, you will still have the full control over the domain name. You can either use our information, our nameservers or you can go with your custom data.
If you ever want to move the domain from our system, we'll of course give you the domain without any additional costs.
The idea is to make sure that we minimise your visibility to the public. We're not going to give your customer data out easily. However, we will help if there are legal merits to any formal government requests to our system. If you use our service in a way that affects anyones health or safety, we reserve the right to suspend your service.
You should have full control over your data. We help you achieve that: a safe home for all your data. Secure, under your control and developed in an open, transparent and trustworthy way. We are Nextcloud.
Nextcloud offers industry-leading on-premises file sync and online collaboration technology. Our expertise is in combining the convenience and ease of use of consumer-grade solutions like Dropbox and Google Drive with the security, privacy and control business needs.

The NoScript Firefox extension provides extra protection for Firefox, Seamonkey and other mozilla-based browsers: this free, open source add-on allows JavaScript, Java, Flash and other plugins to be executed only by trusted web sites of your choice (e.g. your online bank).
NoScript also provides the most powerful anti-XSS and anti-Clickjacking protection ever available in a browser.
NoScript's unique whitelist based pre-emptive script blocking approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even not known yet!) with no loss of functionality...
You can enable JavaScript, Java and plugin execution for sites you trust with a simple left-click on the NoScript status bar icon (look at the picture), or using the contextual menu, for easier operation in popup statusbar-less windows. Watch the "Block scripts in Firefox" video by cnet.
For Android: NoScript Anywhere (NSA) is the nickname for the next major iteration of the NoScript security add-on (NoScript 3.x), whose guts have been turned upside down in order to match Mozilla's Electrolysis multiprocessing architecture and implement a porting for Firefox Mobile, available on Android smartphones and tablets.
This open source (GPL) effort has started in the very beginning of 2011, and has been partially funded by the NLnet Foundation.
NoScript 3 alpha, available on Firefox 4 Mobile for the Android and Maemo operating systems, offers all the the major security features of "classic" NoScript:
- Easy per-site active content permissions management.
- The first and most powerful anti-XSS (cross-site scripting) filter available in a web browser.
- ClearClick, the one and only effective client-side protection against Clickjackings available on the client side.*
- ABE (App Boundaries Enforcer), a true webapp firewall inside your mobile browser to protect your router and web applications against CSRF and DNS rebinding attacks.**
Point & click to forbid/allow any class of requests made by your browser. Use it to block scripts, iframes, ads, facebook, etc. uMatrix: A point-and-click matrix-based firewall, with many privacy-enhancing tools.
uMatrix put you in full control of where your browser is allowed to connect, what type of data it is allowed to download, and what it is allowed to execute. Nobody else decides for you: You choose. You are in full control of your privacy.
Out of the box, uMatrix works in relax block-all/allow-exceptionally mode, meaning web sites which require 3rd-party scripts are likely to be "broken". With two clicks, uMatrix can be set to work in allow-all/block-exceptionally mode, which generally will not break web sites.
Regarding the myth that "Chromium-based browsers can't reliably block JavaScript", see: https://github.com/gorhill/httpswitchboard/wiki/Blocking-javascript-execution-reliably-in-Chromium-based-browsers.
-
See ALL the remote connections, failed or attempted, depending on whether they were blocked or allowed (you decide).
-
A single-click to whitelist/blacklist one or multiple classes of requests according to the destination and type of data (a blocked request will NEVER leave your browser).
-
Efficient blacklisting: cookies won't leave your browser, JavaScript won't execute, plugins won't play, tracking pixels won't download, etc.
-
You do not have to solely rely on just one particular curated blacklist (arguably with many missing entries) outside which nothing else can be blocked: You are in full control.
-
Ease of use: uMatrix lets you easily whitelist/blacklist net requests which originate from within a web page according to a point-and-click matrix:
- domain names (left column)
- from very specific
- to very generic
- type of requests (top row)
- cookies
- CSS-related resources (stylesheets and web fonts)
- images
- plugins
- scripts
- XHR (requests made by scripts)
- frames
- others

HTTPS Everywhere is a browser extension produced as a collaboration between The Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. It encrypts your communications with a number of major websites.
Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site.
The HTTPS Everywhere extension fixes these problems by rewriting all requests to these sites to HTTPS.
HTTPS Everywhere can protect you only when you're using sites that support HTTPS and for which HTTPS Everywhere includes rules.

CryptPad is a private-by-design alternative to popular office tools and cloud services. All the content stored on CryptPad is encrypted before being sent, which means nobody can access your data unless you give them the keys.
CryptPad is a suite of zero knowledge, realtime collaborative editors and applications. Encryption carried out in your web browser protects the data from the server, the cloud, and the NSA. The secret encryption key is stored in the URL fragment identifier which is never sent to the server but is available to javascript so by sharing the URL, you give authorization to others who want to participate.
CryptPad uses a variant of the Operational transformation algorithm which is able to find distributed consensus using a Nakamoto Blockchain, a construct popularized by Bitcoin. This way the algorithm can avoid the need for a central server to resolve Operational Transform Edit Conflicts and without the need for resolving conflicts, the server can be kept unaware of the content which is being edited on the pad.
Cryptpad offers collaboration on text and WYSIWYG documents, as well as a basic polling application where users see results in real time.

Privacy Badger is a browser-add on tool that analyzes sites to detect and disallow content that tracks you in an objectionable, non-consensual manner. When you visit websites, your copy of Privacy Badger keeps note of the "third party" domains that embed images, scripts and advertising in the pages you visit. If a third party server appears to be tracking you without permission, by using uniquely identifying cookies to collect a record of the pages you visit across multiple sites, Privacy Badger will automatically disallow content from that third party tracker. In some cases a third-party domain provides some important aspect of a page's functionality, such as embedded maps, images, or fonts. In those cases Privacy Badger will allow connections to the third party but will screen out its tracking cookies.
An efficient blocker add-on for various browsers. Fast, potent, and lean.
uBlock Origin is NOT an "ad blocker": it is a wide-spectrum blocker -- which happens to be able to function as a mere "ad blocker". The default behavior of uBlock Origin when newly installed is to block ads, trackers and malware sites -- through EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Peter Lowe’s ad/tracking/malware servers, Online Malicious URL Blocklist, and uBlock Origin's own filter lists.
At a glance, I'd remove:
Telegram -> use these instead: https://www.privacytools.io/software/real-time-communication/
Ubuntu -> why? On recent updates Canonical added Amazon ads to Ubuntu.
ExpressVPN & PIA -> why? There are better alternatives. See: https://thatoneprivacysite.net/
Wire -> JUST got removed on Privacy Tools this month. Got bought by a US company. News was on the front-page of AlternativeTo.
Brave -> Has built-in ads, collects your data is Chromium based. Use
Mozilla Firefox or
Tor Browser or
Falkon
Infinity Seach -> Personally I use
DuckDuckGo but we'll see what infinity has to offer on the long run...
Your list is important but it's bloated and full of doubtful suggestions. This can be misleading to uninformed users. Please revise your content! I'm happy to help with the little I know.
[Edited by coralinecastell, January 10 TO REFLECT RESPONSE BELLOW]
This list will be updated shortly as we were unaware of some of these recent events. We started out this list by gathering many products that are generally known for valuing user privacy but there are several more alternatives that we will add to this and we will remove some as well. We are also migrating many of these products to a new list that is just going to be Google alternatives that do not pass for being completely privacy based.
As for Infinity Search and the other search engines included here, they will remain on the list because they are still privacy products. DuckDuckGo has always been included in this list but it is not the only reliable privacy based search engine. Others include Infinity Search, Qwant, Searx, Mojeek, and several others which can be found at https://alternativeto.net/list/13568/privacy-search-engines.
We appreciate your response and please let us know your thoughts on our new revisions!
