Advantages:
500 Disposable Adresses, free UNLIMITED Storage space:
The main advantage of Yahoo-Mail are the max. 500 "Disposable E-Mail-Addresses", which You can change or create very easy, if you are flooded with Spam-Mails, or if you want to avoid the danger to be flooded for certain purposes.
A link for very rapid editing these flexible Mail-Addresses is:

Disadvantages:
No IMAP, sending away from "Disposable Address" only from Web-Interface, no POP3-access via email client:
Sending away from an Yahoo-"Disposable Address" is only possible from Yahoo-Mail Web-Interface, not from Mozilla Thunderbird.
The ability to access Yahoo! Mail via a POP3 email client (such as Outlook or Outlook Express) is only available to customers of the premium Yahoo! Mail Plus service ( $19.99 per year).
If you have not purchased the Yahoo! Mail Plus service, you will be unable to retrieve messages via an email client: http://bit.ly/2ZTKRh, http://bit.ly/1a6bx0.
Yahoo! Mail as well as Yahoo! Mail Plus do not support IMAP access from other Mail-Clients: http://bit.ly/2jVtNX.
The only Free-Mail service with UNLIMITED storage AND POP3- AND IMAP support seems to be AOL-Mail: http://alternativeto.net/desktop/aol-mail/

This is what I use the most for emails. It is nice quick has a good interface and just is overall great at least to me. I use it to TXT and IM friends I know since it has a built in IM.
