There's many little bugs in this software. Altough they don't make it crash, they make it annoying to use in some cases, specially when dealing with thumbnails.

I really like it for allowing multiple instances. Having a single instance isa real downer when working with a lot of images.

I prefer XnView to IrfanView or FastStone Image Viewer -1 Helpful

I've tested XnView Standard version, IrfanView and FastStone Image Viewer. I liked XnView the most, because:

  1. XnView scales well in Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on 150% DPI.

  2. XnView has a tabbed interface, therefore viewing multiple images is very comfortable.

  3. XnView has an option to show image properties (EXIF information), such as date taken, camera model that was used to take that image etc., in program's title bar.

If you're looking for a free image viewer and basic editor, I suggest to try XnView first.

Best I've tried so far

I tried irfanview, faststone, and xnview. they all have lots of features, but also some clunky behavior. so far xnview is the best.

Can't open files with unicode in their names, though.

Also the "lossless" JPEG rotation crops pictures while rotating, which shouldn't happen.

Discovered this soft recently and i find it to be very handy. It can read a lot of formats, including Mac Os .icns icons and it doesn't struggle with Windows icons like IrFanView, which gives a lot of decode errors on my machine (i'm not the only one).

Now concerning bhola's previous comment, i don't think a software using 3 MB of ram should be considered as a hog. It's really easy on my good old Core2Duo too.

Works well in Windows, has some nice features and functions, the IPTC and XMP metadata tools are handy for me. Not stable enough in Ubuntu to use it though, sadly...

Been using it for a while, I prefer it to Infranview, mostly due to interface.
