A Tool developed by Microsoft, that gives administrators enhanced options for configuring shared computers, such as hard drive protection and advanced user management. It is primarily designed for use on computers shared by many people, such as internet cafes, schools, libraries etc. SteadyState is the successor to the Shared Computer Toolkit. I recommend Comodo Time Machine as a free alternative, and also "Rollback Rx" as a paid/managed alternative!

Windows SteadyState has been discontinued as of 12/31/10. It looks like the reason is because of the incompatibility with Windows 7.

An Excellent program for Windows XP SP2/3 and Windows Vista. Unfortunately, no matter how many compatability settings I try, the software will not work with Windows 7. It installs and you can use some functionality, but the hard drive imaging and protection is not available. I will be testing Comodo Time Machine as a Windows 7 solution - but in XP, I am extremely satisfied with Windows SteadyState.
