Winamp WAS once the best audio-player

Negative Comment by Kissaki about Winamp Feb 2011

Winamp was once the best audio-player but has since become a crappy collection of too much. Too many tools, pay-features and shareware, and intrusive sw-parts. Do not use it any more!

You can gee the Lite version from Winamp's site, it keeps the best features while removing all the bloat.

But keeps the ads and upgrade-notifications?

Winamp has been my favourite audio player for years and it still is only because it can be docked. Furthermore it seems to play everything.

No toolbars or other crap if you UNCHECK those options during install !

Vox is the perfect alternative for Winamp if you are using a Mac

It took me a lot of time but finally I found what I wanted: a light application to play my music on my Mac like I do on my PC using Winamp Lite. Vox is free. You'll be pleased.

If you're tired of Winamp, try Foobar. Beats Winamp every day :D

Installs an incredible amount of crap like toolbars and stuff. Avoid.

Prefer DoubleTwist for most applications even though they are very similar. Both support a ton of formats, both have clients that run on PC, but DT has a Mac client, is a little smoother and iTunes-like, and has a better navigation system.

I still keep a copy of Winamp on my Android as well in the hope that new versions will edge out DT.

Winamp is the king of media players. Excellent interface that still kick-ass, great equalizer with good presets and decibel adjuster; Replay Gain support and a lot of extensions.

The only downsides are the lack of embed cover art to files and is a little buggy with videos, specifically HD Mpeg-4 ones.
