Time Doctor Comments

Good tool but disagree with comment below

You cannot go for Windows or any othe OS software. Go for cloud platforms - many good tools out there for time tracking and vacations management. Actually went for another Time tracker and allowed my employees to book time and vacations anywhere in the world either via web or mobile. Directly from their phone

Time Doctor is not a bad piece of software and gets the job done. They have one of the nicest desktop clients, but sub-par web interface for management. Here some of the alternatives:

Screenshot Monitor (http://screenshotmonitor.com/) is the one we end up using because it was the most intuitive to use and free version was enough for us. It has time tracking + screenshots and not much else. Only Windows client.

Worksnaps (http://worksnaps.net/www/index2.shtml) - very close to oDesk Team applicaton, quite a lot of features. Unintuitive, outdated interface. Starts at $15/month for 4 users

FreshBooks (http://www.freshbooks.com/) - Great for accounting self time. Has apps for smartphones. Focuses on invoicing. No screenshots. Weak tools for managers to control the worker.

HiveDesk (http://www.hivedesk.com/) - despite a nice site, the Java-based client is unintuitive. Generally just takes screenshots and nothing else

RescueTime (http://www.rescuetime.com/) - just watches what window is on top and makes reports based on it.
