The Unarchiver is a much more capable replacement for "BOMArchiveHelper.app", the built-in archive unpacker program in Mac OS X. The Unarchiver is designed to handle many more formats than BOMArchiveHelper, and to better fit in with the design of the Finder. It can also handle filenames in foreign character sets, created with non-English versions of other operating systems. Supported file formats include zip, tar, gzip, bzip2, rar, 7zip, LhA, StuffIt and many other more or less obscure formats. ... More info »
The Unarchiver feels more like an extension of Archive Utility than a standalone extractor app. It's minimal, and stays in the background. Just extract your files, and you're done. You won't even notice it's there. I like that. :D
So much better than UnRarX that I was using. The unarchiver allows you to extract to a folder by default, and then to automatically open that folder. That is a huge time and effort saver for me!
