Synkron

Open Source by Matúš Tomlein | Link to website

Synkron is an application for folder synchronisation that allows you to configure your synchronisations in detail. Despite having many features, the user interface of Synkron is very user-friendly and easy to use. Synkron is able to synchronise multiple folders at once, analyse folders before sync, restore overwritten or deleted files, plan synchronisations and much more. More info »

Disappointing after a while

Negative Comment by drezha about Synkron SyncBack Sep 2011

Initially I thought this was a great program, being similar to Syncback but on the Mac. Joy was shortlived. Trying to sync large amounts of data caused it to die. Shame that Syncback SE doesn't have a Mac version as that is the biggest program I miss moving to a Mac.

Synkron V1.6.2: You cannot define a proxy for the internet connection:
See SourgeForge.net Feature Request ID 2947864: http://is.gd/I315P5 .
Everybody, who is using Synkron and has only access to internet by using an proxy, cannot use the "Check for update" feature.
It is necessary to supply a proxy definition menu, as it is realized in the Firefox Addon "Proxy Selector" (see http://is.gd/hslCRV), but additional with a proxy password and with the following 5 options available:
- No proxy,
- Auto-detect proxy settings for this network,
- Use system proxy settings
- Manual Proxy Configuration with URL, password and Port for a HTTP Proxy,
- Automatic proxy configuration URL.

Synkron has automatical symmetrical file-deletion
In difference to SyncBack free edition Synkron has an automatical file-deletion at the other side (equal which side) of a sync-folder-pair, if file-deletion-time was later than last-file-change-time at the side, where the file still exists.
The advantages of Synkron in comparison with other sync-apps are:
- auto-file-deletion,
- available as portable-app for dropbox-directories,
- 16 languages, free also in commercial use, very reliable syncronisation results,
- multi-sync more source-folders to one destination folder,
- german and english online documentation on http://sites.google.com/site/synkrondocumentation
Disadvantages:
- No indication of date, time & size of the files in the two sync-directories, what is usual in all other sync-apps
- Too long analysis- and syncronization-procedures only with hourglas instead of progress report
- Difficult to understand terms: OBSOLETE means:
. The files in both directories have a different modification date.
. Better instead of "obsolete" would be "time difference"
- You cannot call a bat-file after the synchronisation, as this is possible with PureSync (1)

Yeah, this one looks good, has some features I'd find useful, but it doesn't check it's work, and that's a deal-breaker.
No checksummy, no instally.
DirSync Pro is still the winner in my book, but not by much.

Disappointing theres no choice but DirSync Pro & TeraCopy for integrity checking sync/copy tools.

I can't build it (install) on Fedora 11 (x8664)... Building with squirrelsh "say" missing libpcre.so.3. I followed some hint found on google....

1) installed squirrell
2) compiled squirrellsh
3) search and installed libpcre (x86
64 and i586)

... I don't know how to get further! :-(
