Instead of starting with a blank screen, SmartDraw gives you the exact template you need. Then use simple commands to add your information and SmartDraw does the rest. There's no other drawing software like it.

I've been testing SmartDraw for flowcharts, and it's pretty handy with its templates! Still getting used to the quirks, though—like how it sometimes decides where boxes go. Also checked out a mermaid drawing tool recently, and it’s cool for quick diagrams. SmartDraw feels more polished but has a learning curve. Would love to see smoother saves and more control over layouts!
SmartDraw is available via the cloud too for Mac users. You can learn more about that here and start a free trial.

I tried SmartDraw because of its timeline feature. At a first glance, it seemed like a good replacement for the squareness and complexity of Visio until I tried to adjust the timeframe: SmartDraw was reluctant to accept my input. I couldn't obtain a timeline with the timeframe I needed, but a timeline with whatever timeframe SmartDraw was pleased with.
Another "feature" came along when trying to save a drawing: the "Save As..." dialog window took ages to open and finally came up with an application crash. Also, it didn't recognize an already opened file, producing a new blank window... and crashing.
I recommend to stick with Visio or using SmartDraw at your own risk... maybe you could be lucky enough
I also have an issue with the way paths are split. Perhaps I just don't know enough, but the way it keeps going horizontally makes the entire drawing needlessly huge in the horizontal sense. I need it to go vertically eventually.
It's a pretty sleek little app so far, however I have been somewhat unable to format flowcharts the way I want so that they do not become too unwieldy. Adding new boxes and such is not obvious to me, because sometimes SmartDraw decides where the new box will go. This isn't ideal if I have already added text to existing boxes.
This is for work breakdown structures.
