The icon for the Mac version of this actually looks better than the icon in the Windows version. True story.

See? Gorgeous. Microsoft needs to get their act together... and make some better-looking icons for their Windows apps.

Is anyone still using RDC when there are dozen of free solutions to quick remote desktop sharing though free for non-commercial use.

Try config-zero Ammyy Admin http://www.ammyy.com
or TV www.teamveiwer.com which is also good but a bit complicated for the 1st run comparing to Ammyy.

On the other hand the choice is really depends on the goals set.

With TightVNC (2) Server you can get remote access on a windows 2000 PC, also commercial free
With Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection you can install an RDC-client (1) on a W2K PC. With this client you can look from W2K at a screen from a WXP-PC, but not vice versa. If You want to see and control the screen of a W2K-PC from WXP-PC's you can do it with TightVNC Server on the W2K-PC and TightVNC Client on the WXP-PC. It works, but the access is a little slow.

A simpler solution is TurboSupport (http://www.turbosupport.com). Compared to other commercial solutions, it’s more economical at $19.95 per month. Added to these, you get voice calls for free.

Remote Desktop Connection for access from Win XP Home Computers
If you want to get remote access to a Vista business PC from a Windows XP Home PC this normally does not work, only from a Windows XP prof. PC this function is implemented.
But if you download and install the Update for Windows XP (KB969084) you also get access from Win XP Home Computers to Vista business computers.
The Download link is:

Terminals http://alternativeto.net/desktop/terminals/ is a secure, multi tab terminal services/remote desktop client. It
uses Terminal Services ActiveX Client (mstscax.dll). The project started from the need of controlling multiple connections simultaneously.
It is a complete replacement for the mstsc.exe (Terminal Services) client, which is called by starting "Remote Desktop Connection".
