   Free and open source software with fantastic video format support. I struggled with Apple's QuickTime Player not running mkv and webm videos and exporting videos by default as mov files which are incompatible in certain contexts.

   Just like QuickTime, but better. It supports many more formats, has many more features, and is just more enjoyable to use. Works and feels a lot like QuickTime. Definitely better than VLC as a Mac alternative.

   Best open-source MacOS video player. Much better than QuickTime — supports more formats, has more features, yet it's still clean and easy to use with a MacOS feel to it (compared to VLC).
