    • Depends what you think an alternative is: PapyrOS and Elementary OS aim to look pretty. PapyrOS is based on Arch, which is an advanced distro based on a rolling model (constant, bleeding edge updates). Elementary OS is based on Ubuntu long-term release under the hood. about PapyrOS and Xfce, Manjaro Linux, Cinnamon Jan 2017

PapyrOS blog receives few updates. None since mid 2015 (18 months ago): http://papyros.io/blog/
On Github, activity seems slow and sporadic.
Presently PapyrOS is on v. 0.2, so it's unlikely to be ready as a "main driver" distro for a while.

A user friendly Arch-based distro is Manjaro. It comes with KDE Plasma or XFCE as default. There are many other community versions with other desktops (Cinnamon, Mate, Gnome, Budgie...) each of which can be made to look pretty, e.g. using various GTK themes. For an excellent guide see the work of Erik Dubois.
