Over time since Oracle has taken over, OpenOffice.org has sucked more and more.

Now I just use Abiword, Gnumeric or Google Docs instead. :3

Switching to LibreOffice since Oracle took over OpenOffice (and Java, and VirtualBox, and...)

Yes, it's OpenOffice.org in order to avoid trademark issues in some countries where the name 'OpenOffice' is owned by other companies.

Btw, users might be interested in checking out the story of OpenOffice vs LibreOffice, start with a Google search: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openoffice#LibreOffice. LibreOffice started out as a fork of OpenOffice, but is managed by a foundation, whereas OpenOffice is more or less run by Oracle.

Runs just as good on Linux as Windows 7!

I'm so glad they haven't used the evil banner style Microsoft has followed in 2007+. Instead of simplifying the UI they just hide it behind tabs! Thank you, OpenOffice, for doing your UI the right way!

Note about my edit: it's OpenOffice.org not Open Office, correct?

Microsoft Office is by far the best office suite, no question. But Open Office is definitely next in line, and of course, it's free.

Beware of Writer the Open Office alternative to Microsoft Word. I've sent my resume as a Open Office "Word" document to major corporations. I've been emailed many times by Microsoft Word users unable to open my resume. Beware of Open Office. If it's important information your sending get Microsoft Office. Microsoft makes it difficult for alternatives to function within their system. You just may lose an opportunity for a good job if you don't use Microsoft's Word. Mirosoft calls it security but it's really a way to keep freeware from functioning and making you pay for their software.

I use this a lot, it is the best office suite for me. I use the Writer the most, but everything does a great job.
