MyUninstaller Comments

Missing applications

Comment by Anamon
about MyUninstaller and Bulk Crap Uninstaller Mar 2017

I tried using MyUninstaller to remove an entry from Windows' Add/Remove programs list, of a program which I had already uninstalled but for some reason the entry was left behind. Even though most traces of the software were removed correctly (installation folder, registry keys, shortcuts), when choosing to uninstall it again from the list, Windows finds some version of InstallShield to run, which then complains that it couldn't find the application to uninstall, because of which Windows also doesn't offer to remove the orphaned entry from the list.

Unfortunately, said entry is missing from the MyUninstaller list. It contains many entries missing from Add/Remove programs, but not that one. I suspect it might have something to do with the fact that the application in question is a pre-Unicode Japanese program, also showing a Japanese name in Add/Remove programs.

This is just to note that MyUninstaller might not catch all the application entries you'd expect it to.

I ended up using Bulk Crap Uninstaller to remove the orphaned entry. It showed the application in the list, detected the left-behind InstallShield uninstaller in the Windows directory which kept being run, and removed both.
