Microsoft Office Visio Comments

Edraw Max released the Mac version. 1 Helpful

Positive Comment by edwinelevent
about Microsoft Office Visio May 2016

A new visio alternative for Mac is available. I used edraw max lifetime license for some years. Today I'm glad that I got the mac version. It's really a good choice for IOS users. The software has more examples and templates. The symbols tools is important for me because I need create own electrical symbols. They also give great support which is important.

Check out SmartDraw as a Visio Alternative

Positive Comment by egaal
about Microsoft Office Visio Mar 2016

SmartDraw offers a solid alternative to Visio. It imports both VSDX and VSD files. It has a desktop PC edition and you can also use it online in a browser. The Cloud edition lets you do what you used to do in Visio on your Mac: make flowcharts, network diagrams, and so on.

It also comes with a big collection of diagram templates, examples, and symbols. It may seem overwhelming at first, but anyone who needs a little nudge to help get a project off the ground is going to love all the options.

The tools are intuitive and are meant to make it easy to create a diagram even if you've never made one before.

This video on their site does a really nice job of highlighting the major differences:

It provides full support for BPMN 2.0 and advanced mechanisms such as process simulation, queries and web documentation.

about Microsoft Office Visio Jun 2011

Still AFAIK, is the best 2D diagramming tool available (and I have use it extensively). Unfortunately, there's still that damn proprietary lock-in and the price tag seems to be growing a lot faster than most/all of the other Microsoft's products. Hopefully Google will come out with something one of these days to create some competition because the cost makes it not 'worth it' to upgrade.
