Problems with latest version

Comment by Danilo_Venom

Version 6.2.1549 (Sept. 2016) is not OK: you cannot select the source-partition in Win10, which should be backuped! V 6.2.1544 was OK.

Very fast & reliable images of Drive C with running Windows

  • You can set the default processing priority for your backups and disk images:

The highest setting will create the quickest backups but will slow down other appplications that are running.
The lowest setting will allow other applications to run faster but will create the slowest backup even if no other applications are runing.

No slow down of other applications with low backup priority

  • I like and recommend Macrium Reflect more than the best commercial applications:

Since 3 years I use Macrium Reflect with Windows XP and Vista 64 bit to the most full satisfaction and have restored the operating system succesfully already a few times. I like and recommend Macrium Reflect more than the best commercial applications, which I have used 3 years before. I do not know, why a private user, should pay for a backup solution, which cannot be better than Macrium Reflect.

Thanks for the review, would try it later.

archives larger than acronis

100% CPU when backing up on P4 2.8GHz,
computer slows down a lot,
computer less responsive
unlike Acronis

well i had the opposite problem, acronis was horrible buggy and slow, when i switched to macrium everything was fine

Also restore single files or folders, but backup only drives

about Macrium Reflect · ·
  • You can also restore single files or folders by mounting the mrimg-image-file e.g. as drice J, but the backup-procedure must run for the full drive C.
  • The complete backup is stored in only one big single file which has approximately 50% of the size of all files of the backed-up partition.

This app is a must have and its free!

about Macrium Reflect · ·

I concur with the comment below. This app is a must have and its free! Acronis does not have a free version. Differential backups can be used if you buy the full version. I typically don't need that feature so Im happy with the free version and a rescue boot disk.

With VSS as good as Norton Ghost, but free for personal use

about Macrium Reflect and Norton Ghost · ·
  • Backup open files with Microsoft Volume Shadow copy Service (VSS):

Macrium Reflect Free Edition is able to make very fast and reliable images of Drive C with Vista or XP 32 or 64 bit or with Windows 7 during running Windows, because using Microsoft Volume Shadow copy Service (VSS).

  • Bootable Linux based Rescue CD:

Very easy you can make a bootable Linux based Rescue CD with Network access for restoring system backups, if running operating system is damaged. You can also restore single files or folders, but backup only the full drive C. In my opinion it is as good as the best commercial applications for this purpose, but it is free for personal use.

In my opinion it is nearly as good as Norton Ghost, but it is free for personal use.
