LyX is a document processor. It combines the power and flexibility of TeX/LaTeX, an advanced typesetting system, with the ease of use of a graphical interface. Although in some respects its user interface resembles that of conventional word processors (MS Word, OpenOffice, etc.), LyX uses LaTeX to process its documents and generate the final output.
