Jing

Free with limited functionality by Techsmith | Link to website

Jing is a screencasting software launched in 2007 as Jing Project by the TechSmith Corporation. The software takes a picture or video of the users computer screen and uploads it to the Web, FTP, computer or clipboard. An URL is automatically created and can be shared with others to view or access the uploaded file. You can use the image tools to add text, highlight existing text, or add an arrow or a rectangle to annotate your capture. With Jing you can take captures quicker than with similar applications... Hi em4020,
Thanks for your comments and suggestions below. The Jing team and I want to thank you for your support. Lots of great stuff is still on the way so stay tuned! As a side note to your Dec 2009 comment (hey, better late than never!) we have a product feedback option in the More ball of Jing. I like your idea of an in-product form for submitting comments and suggestions. Regardless of how you contact us, we're always interested to hear from our users, so let us hear from you! Thanks again!

Best regards,

Jing Version 2.4.10231 from August 24, 2010 with PROXY Support:
The Jing team has been hard at work adding three more improvements to Jing:
(1) proxy support, (2) SFTP and (3) audio device selection. The first two are targeted at the corporate and education users. If you've ever tried to use the last Jing-Versions behind a proxy, you have been disappointed.
Jing now tries to autodetect the proxy settings and allows manual settings with authenticated proxy support.

Many thanks to Jing for providing this important function of the PROXY-selection, which I have suggested in my comment and E-mail to Jing from January 2010. So now I can use Jing also on my corporate computer and not only an my private computer as I did until now.

Because Jing is currently lacking an entry way for a HTTP web proxy with username and password as DropBox, so Jing does not work in a corporate network with password protection, where DropBox and SugarSync work very good, however.
I suggested to TechSmith:
Please provide a HTTP-proxy server entry for Jing as a new feature, as with DropBox with a username and password for HTTP and Socks proxy, or like SugarSync with additional domain entry.
After only one day the TechSmith developers answered: it's quite clear we need and want to handle proxies a lot better.
Thanks to TechSmith for this very quick reaction !

I like Jing really very much because of its unique web-upload function, but I have 3 little wishes to the Jing developers:
(A)
Jing should provide a quick feedback window (or at least a link to "My Stuff" in the web) for the suggestion of new features or improvements directly in the application (GreenShot has a link to a website for bug/improvement-reporting).
(B)
If I store a Jing-Screenshot as a file, I would like to use the file name often later also as a text with several words and empty spaces between the words instead of underscores (via Clipboard).
Jing should not transform all empty signs (in variant: local storing of screenshots) in the file name to underscores,
Therefore I often use GreenShot instead of Jing for these purposes.
(C)
Jing should create the possibility to define a button to store a screenshot locally without changing/loosing the content of the clipboard as before storing the screenshot. Until now for this purpose I must use GreenShot.
