inSSIDer is a free Wi-Fi network scanner for Windows (including Windows 7 and 64bit editions). A cross-platform version is in the works and a Linux version is currently in alpha stage. inSSIDer lists networks in range and displays information such as SSID, channel, signal strength, SNR, Access Point vendor, etc. It will track the geographical location if a supported GPS is installed. I like the graphical chart. Nice for selecting a channel for your hotspot to minimize interference from nearby hotspots.

Provides much better information on signal strength than Windows built-in signal strength status.

Very simple to use, and finds networks I wouldn't know were there otherwise, just wish I could try to connect to them from its interface.
