FileHippo Update Checker

This is a great little, simple updater-checker! Does the job!

A very useful program for updating lots of programs at the same time.

Caution! FileHippo changes the application language to english, even if there was another language before the update:
FileHippo does not care, in what language an application ist installed before an update and downloads the english version without asking. (So it was with the Open Office 3.1.1. Update)
I hope that FileHippo improves this (bad) behaviour. Besides this problem FileHippo is one of the best Update installer applications. Until this bad behaviour is improved, I can only use it as a Checker not as a updater, because my preference language is german.

FileHippo is its own awesome little animal. It does not run a giant huge enormous monstrous scan on your machine to check for updates on everything. This utility only checks on updates for programs that are listed on the FileHippo site. Makes sense now, doesn't it? Long story short; many of these programs are free and quite a few are (IMHO) superior alternatives to their costly opposition. Check it out.

A very good german alternative to www.FileHippo.com is the Automatic Update Client (AUC): http://www.updater.de.vu/

I always have to check any updates I get with the original software sites before I install, nice idea - but an even better virus gateway potentially. For example right now it wants to update my Java to a version that does not exist - ???, It also wanted to update my itunes to a version that did not exist - and so on...

There tends to be increasingly more of these kind of downloads - viral? Don't know, but they are not official releases either - as when you check with the original website or get the software to check for updates for the software, the update does not exist!
