But do not use their downloader

Was great... nowadays however...

It did its job wonderfully in the past. However a few months ago it changed its approach and now forces you to use their "downloader" tool, while trying to bait you into installing extra software with common tactics used by recent installers (options for installing programs checked by default, or disguised as user agreements).

Sorry but IMO using this app nowadays is like playing russian roulette. You never know when you are accidentally going to fall for one of the tricks and end up installing unwanted crap.

FileHippo Download Manager

about FileHippo App Manager Sep 2014

Filehippo has become exceedingly annoying. It now forces you to use their own "filehippo download manager" for every download, that pops up a link to a "thank you for installing" page everytime you install or update an application. Gets frustrating when you need to update 10+ programs.

Updated software are english only

Negative Comment by milouz
about FileHippo App Manager and Milouz Market Nov 2013

the detection works well but if you update a software like Firefox, for example, that is installed in a non english language, it will be remplaced by the english version.

A good alternative is milouz market that manage more than 40 languages

An other thing in that the app dont a have a real user interface but it opens a web page, maybe it won't bother you, but a software that open webpage always makes me think it will be an advert.

Caution! FileHippo changes the app-language to english!

Negative Comment by em4020
about FileHippo App Manager Jun 2011

Caution! FileHippo changes the application language to english, even if there was another language before the update:
FileHippo does not care, in what language an application ist installed before an update and downloads the english version without asking. (So it was with the Open Office 3.1.1. Update)
I hope that FileHippo improves this (bad) behaviour. Besides this problem FileHippo is one of the best Update installer applications. Until this bad behaviour is improved, I can only use it as a Checker not as a updater, because my preference language is german.

FileHippo is its own awesome little animal. Check it out!

FileHippo is its own awesome little animal. It does not run a giant huge enormous monstrous scan on your machine to check for updates on everything. This utility only checks on updates for programs that are listed on the FileHippo site. Makes sense now, doesn't it? Long story short; many of these programs are free and quite a few are (IMHO) superior alternatives to their costly opposition. Check it out.

Very good german alternative to AUC

I always have to check any updates

Negative Comment by Decronite
about FileHippo App Manager Jun 2011

I always have to check any updates I get with the original software sites before I install, nice idea - but an even better virus gateway potentially. For example right now it wants to update my Java to a version that does not exist - ???, It also wanted to update my itunes to a version that did not exist - and so on...

There tends to be increasingly more of these kind of downloads - viral? Don't know, but they are not official releases either - as when you check with the original website or get the software to check for updates for the software, the update does not exist!
