Review Dropbox

Comment by JohnTucker about Dropbox Oct 2011

I know a lot of people use the free version of Dropbox and are trying to get more free space by referring others. I know on my website I get quite a few comments with referral codes. I usually delete them but if people are willing to write a little review of Dropbox there is a website I found that will place their referral code on the site. Check out http://reviewdropbox.com/ and leave a review of Dropbox along with your referral code.

Thought it might help those looking to help increase their free space.

From the new terms of service:

"By submitting your stuff to the Services, you grant us (and those we work with to provide the Services) worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable rights to use, copy, distribute, prepare derivative works (such as translations or format conversions) of, perform, or publicly display that stuff to the extent we think it necessary for the Service."

Apparently Dropbox has just joined the Dark Side. Time to find an alternative.

Ubuntu one is a good alternative, if youre on ubuntu, android and windows

Well, nearly everybody uses Facebook. What does that say about us?

"You retain ownership to your stuff. You are also solely responsible for your conduct, the content of your files and folders, and your communications with others while using the Services.

We sometimes need your permission to do what you ask us to do with your stuff (for example, hosting, making public, or sharing your files). By submitting your stuff to the Services, you grant us (and those we work with to provide the Services) worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable rights to use, copy, distribute, prepare derivative works (such as translations or format conversions) of, perform, or publicly display that stuff to the extent reasonably necessary for the Service. This license is solely to enable us to technically administer, display, and operate the Services. You must ensure you have the rights you need to grant us that permission. "

Actually, I don't really understand the essence of such software while there are a lot of powerfull freeware not only for remote files access but also remote pc control.

Using let's say Ammyy Admin http://www.ammyy.com http://alternativeto.net/software/ammyy-admin/ or teamviewer http://alternativeto.net/software/teamviewer/comments

you can have full remote access to files and software installed on a remote (office or home) PC. Such approach absolutely eliminates tedious sync process especially if there are tons of files to be transmitted and what is more it's absolutely free.

Both software described above work behind NAT and Firewalls, Ammyy Admin doesn't even require installation or administrator rights.

I've heard Apple is going to develop a new on-line content storage service to simplify access to user's content but who told you it's safe and won't lack to a third party?

Anyway my opinion is that such services like dropbox will die out in future.

The best syncing client

Positive Comment by Joe888 about Dropbox Apr 2011

Personally, I find this to be the best syncing client. I use it extensively for my school work and for backing up various important files.

The best thing about Dropbox is the additional space available: you can grab 500mb extra space with referrals.

The 500mb is more than most links as I'm registered with an educational address. Just thought I should share. Good luck!

Really like Dropbox. I use it to help sync data between my laptop and desktop. Lately however it has been having problems syncing and will often need to be restarted to properly sync data. Does make it easy to share data with other Dropbox users. Great for collaborating on projects.

25GB for free mounted as drive T in windows explorer: Telekom Mediacenter If you speak german or can translate the following german site, you can use this unique offer: http://dsl-und-dienste.t-online.de/mediencenter-die-online-festplatte-fuer-fotos-und-dateien/id_12646830/index?aktreiter=3 For mounting the 25GB as a local drive it is necessary to download and install a little application. You can also access your files from your iPhone or Android mobile device. If you want to sync many folders on more than one PC with Telekom Mediacenter similar as with DropBox but for more folders you can do this with TeamDrive: http://alternativeto.net/software/teamdrive/
