DriveImage XML is a reliable program for easy imaging and backing up partitions and logical drives. Image creation uses Microsofts Volume Shadow Services (VSS), allowing you to create safe "hot images" even from drives currently in use. For data recovery you need Barts PE Builder to create your own bootable CD-ROM ("BartPE") by extracting the necessary files from your WinXP installation CD. (HBCD) Hiren's BootCT (v15.1) (free zipped 500MB ISO-file) is a ready-to-burn bootCD that includes DriveImage XML (v2.30), and additional diagnostic/rescue softwares. http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd If placed on a bootable flash drive, and a live internet connection exists, the User can update malware definitions for six anti-malware softwares. Per Wikipedia.org, this software may still include some (illegal?)commercial software. (On Mar 2, 2011, I only found "Mini-Windows-XP" in the listing for v15.1).
