false alarm. delicious is not going to close, it's going to [something else :D]
"While we have determined that there is not a strategic fit at Yahoo!, we believe there is a ideal home for Delicious outside of the company where it can be resourced to the level where it can be competitive."

Xmarks (1) was and is the best cross-browser-bookmark-synchronization-service
Xmark’s cross-browser-sync (including mobile devices) is a unique feature, which no alternative service can provide: Firefox Sync does not work with Chrome or IE, Chrome Sync does not work with firefox or IE, and Windows Live Essentials Sync Program is not compatible with FireFox or Chrome. Since Dec.2010 Xmarks has with LastPass a new owner with the most popular and very excellent password service "LastPass" and now XMarks for IE can also be used for free in a commercial environment. Additionally you quickly can share a folder (with subfolders) with your personal internet-bookmarks online as webpage and you can vote and see the the average voting of other Xmarks-users for the quality of sites.
Further as an alternative to the Xmarks server you can use your own server for your bookmarks, and you also can sync the passwords across all your used browsers and computers, if you want.
I personally do not miss Delicious, which I never used, because Xmarks ever had by far more and better features. Especially for mobile devices. With the new owner LastPass I hope, that in 2011 XMarks will be additionally available also for Windows Mobile, Phone 7 and Opera.

Delicious is by far the best bookmarking service I've used in the last 10 years and having tried most of the alternatives listed here I find most of them lacking. While Delicious like all the others listed offers a great bookmarking utility that syncs between multiple browser types, it also has the best volume of content making its search results second only to the leading search engines.

Very good comparison (1) of cross-browser-bookmark-synchronization-services :
It seems, that Xmarks (2) has no real competitor concerning the cross-browser-bookmark-synchronization-abilities.
No other bookmark-sync-service than Xmarks is able to sync Bookmarks (and passwords) across IE, FF, Chrome, Mac OS X10, iPhone and iPad.
Bookmark.com (3) has no Chrome-support and a bad reputation on (4), whereas the reputation of Xmarks is excellent on (5) nearly equal to the excellent reputation of AlternativeTo.net, see (6).
