Cobian is the best solution I've tried lately. It has a decent UI, the standard range of options, runs pretty fast and reliably.

The key thing it does that is unique amongst the free tools I've seen is that it lets you set a strategy like "Do a full backup every 1 month, and an incremental one every day in between". Or it will even do differential backups each day (an incremental backup is everything that changed since yesterday's backup, differential is everything that that changed since the last full backup).

Otherwise it's similar to a lot the other tools out there, for example GFIBackup, which I'd definitely consider otherwise.

It does not target anything other than a mounted folder. If you want to write to the Amazon cloud, for example, then consider Duplicati.

No backups every 2nd Monday, no pause when busy, Duplicati is best
It is not good, that missed backups always run, when the computer next time starts up.
Cobian Backup should have an option:
"Run missed backups, only when the system is not busy for 5 minutes and pause missed backups, when the system will be busy again"
Cobian Backup is not able to run Backups only every 2nd Monday. If you need a free solution to backup every 2nd Monday or to start only a backup when system is not busy for x minutes, you must use SyncBack free (1) (only english) or Acronis True Image Home (2) (not free and many languages) or Duplicati (Open Source). SyncBack Free and Areca Backup (Open Source) use the windows Task Manager for the Schedule, Windows Admin rights are necessary for it. SyncBack and Areca cannot cleanup more/older than 4 backups, this only Cobian and Duplicati can do. So Duplicati seems to be the best free backup service.

I have tried many backup solutions so far. Cobian Backup turned out to be the one I liked most. It's a full features backup application that somehow has a user-interface that's easy and fast. The logging is good even though I cannot configure the log-file location. Workaround: Sync job that copies the log-files to a location I want them to be ;-)
There's regular updates and an ok forum. You should absolutely try this one!

Good:
- EASY to use
- Also does goed synchronization
- EASY to use
- Feature rich

Less good:
-Cannot configure log-file location

I like, use and recommend Cobian Backup Amanita version 9.5.1.212.
Advantages:
It has multilanguage support, is very flexible and it is able to limit the number of backups e.g. to a chooseable maximum of 3 backups. You do not need to delete backups later, because the hard disk is full.
Little disadvantage:
the update function works only with SOCKS proxy or no proxy. I have a problem, because I have an internet-connection using only a HTTP-Proxy, but this is not supported by Cobian Backup until now.
I hope, that the next new Cobian Backup Version has an update function which CAN connect to internet with only a HTTP-Proxy.
