Carbonite has gotten much better over the years for remote access. They now offer web access from any browser, as well as apps for iPhone, Android and Blackberry. The fact that they still offer unlimited storage is also a large plus.

They are a good online backup solution for those on Windows and Mac and relatively inexpensive.

If you came here, as I did, from someone's recommendation as a sponsorship, you should read this: http://blog.iharder.net/2010/02/19/crashplan-for-live-offsite-backup/ and try crashplan. I have no experience whatsoever with any other than the free dropbox, but sometimes you just don't need the experience to get to know it.

I don't think Carbonite is really comparable to DropBox. There's no way (unless they've changed recently) that you can access your files from anywhere except the original PC. That's why I switched from Carbonite to MozyHome a few years ago. I like being able to view my backed up files from any PC anywhere, via a browser.
